I'm always keen to head out for a meet and have a chat, except weekends are normally no good for me (family, friends and girlfriend need attention I guess). Always keen to have a mid week meet after work somewhere maybe for dinner or something too

This year's show seemed down on numbers compared to last year. And I'd say air cooled decreased while water cooled increased. So there has been a bit of a swing. Madglf is right about the age of the cars and the time and dedication that has gone into them. That's why people want to get out and show them. I don't think air and water need to compete and the overall brand is becoming bigger. I spoke to someone that has both an r and a type 3. Modern cars will never draw the same attention as the classics, in my opinion.

dear kids, do as james, james, rosemarie, tony, and alex have done, and come to a meeting, join the club, stop bitching and playing the "this is unfair to me" card and do something about it. if your not prepared to make an effort beyond bitching on forums give up now. - this may sound harsh but im tired of ignorant people complaining they are hard done by, of the few on here that have bothered to make an effort, learnt how things work and have achieved change for you. if you cant see that theres no point in me even responding.
what some dont seem to be able to comprehend is that these older models have been played with since the 40s. theres up to 4 generations of familys that have played with them, 1000s of ways to do things with them, all require effort/time/money.
yes later model vws are welcome at things, we can recognise the similaritys AND differences amongst us, its no different to someone whos solely interested in concourse resto jobs and me hacking the **** out of what was a nice beetle & turning it into what most people hate
if anyones got an issue with how the show was run your welcome to come see me & ill explain how & why we came up with the options and who had involvement, funnily enough it was some watercooled influences!
end rant, drink has hit me now.

see you on wednesday at morningside rsl?

As David said people need to actually come along to the meetings. We need more watercooled representation. We tried and we have had some influence over what is happening however we can't go from where we are to where we want to be instantly. It takes time. There is only 5 or so of us that actually go to the meetings each week and put forward ideas while there is around 20 for air cooled, makes you wonder why it is such a slow process huh?

Unfortunatley, my health status prohibits me from attending, in an active capacity, events like the Action Day. But I contribute by attending events as a spectator, buy merchandise, offer assistance to other forum members and pay the fee to join the forum.

Maybe I could go further and buy one of these…

I am not “bitching”, “playing the unfair to me card” nor am I “ignorant” or “complaining that I am hard done by”, I simply have made an observation which is factual and not emotional.

Surely I can do this without being berated by others.

I'd have to say that your 'facts' were more like opinions, and everyone else is entitled to theirs.

The ratio of air cooled to watercooled at the two fevents to which I referred favours aircooled by a considerable degree, that is a fact.

This isn't STIDUB but the computer ninja girlfriend - BUT

Please keep in mind last year at Action Day at Wynnum, there were, essentially, NO CATEGORIES specifically for Watercooled VWs. The fact that the club even managed to get them their own categories, and those there were at very late notice, is in itself a testament to the fact that Change Can Happen. If it weren't for the Newbies, nothing would have changed at all. It's a start!

I'm studying to be an Event Planner. As a part of my course, it is required of me to plan and manage and event. I would be more than willing to plan a Water Cooled dominant car show for you all to attend, should the interest be there. Unfortuantely, it happens that a lot of people say they want to come to these events, and then never turn up.

I have never really heard of an Air-Cooled owner having anything bad to say about the newer version of water-cooled owners. As a fact, most of the older members of the club own both old VWs as Sunday Drivers/ Show Cars, and a new Jetta, Golf, Tig or Rag as their daily. Don't segregate them, because you'll find that we can all assimilate very nicely if we quit with the WC v AC rigmarole.

If there really is as much desire for there to be a WC VW event in SE QLD, I'm in agreement with whoever it was up there before this post, and I will happily help you plan one, no worries. Provided people actually turn up.

See you all at the meet on Wednesday? AGM is in October for the VWDCQinc, and we need a new committee. What better way to be heard, hey? Just stick to protocol and there'll be no worries. Our Social Secretary this year was more than willing to brain storm for events that will get new people interested - Nobody helped him, even the ones who complained about it.

If you want to change things - Help out! And as the VR6PitCrew always say - Make a stand for the VW Brand. Right? Who cares what kind of VW it is, it's a bloody VW and it's awesome.

Brimway, my rant wasn't aimed at you personally, your post was actually sensible and both old & new ways of thinking appeared to be considered

Like I said own both air and water cooled, love them both, neither are ready to enter into anything and only work stopped me from spectating, went to the dyno day earlier this year and entered the golf, well welcomed by the air cooled community.

Nobody specific but when reading the thread it was pretty clear vwwatercooled members felt that it's all biased to older members, without seeing what goes on at meetings, yes they are boring, painful etc but a necessity of running a legitimate car club, I personally hate when opinion is formed without finding out why things are done the way they are.
However, if you think air-cooled have too many categories for "the same thing" I'll be happy to share my limited knowledge of the differences between a 50s 60s 70s beetle, kombi and type 3 + the other variants on those, Manx buggies, things, country buggies, karmann ghias, razors, superbeetles, brazilian specials, other coach built stuff, 100000 buggy varietys, after taking into account the variety covered by the trophies of the day Vs cars in them... I'd say the estimation we made as a club was pretty accurate, hopefully we will Suss out final numbers by the end of the week, I'll happily post up what I can when I can if you like

I think the meeting is to fair away to drive on a wednesday from the gold coast. i would rather be doing other things then drive up there.
I think we should have a meet like on the first monday or wednesday of every month so it isnt so often.

Or maybe we should just go to euro meets more often they would like the watercooled cars.
