  • Hi Guys,

I'm a member from the GolfMKV.com forums. I am definitely up for the cruise, and if its OK with you guys, I'll post it over on GolfMKV.com to see if any of the members over there are interested. I pick my GTI up on Friday 25 May so I'll try to give it a good running in before the meet.

I've gathered (after reading 15 pages of posts!) that we are meeting at 8:30am on Sunday 3 June at the Eight Mile Planes bus station? Is this correct? Can't wait to see all these VW's together!

BTW my car is a CW 3dr Manual GTI. See you soon!

    Cheers
    Steve

PS: I may be one of the "Nannas" at the back of the pack. Drives can get dangerous when people exceed the limits of their car under the pressure and excitement of a meet situation. Just a couple of weeks ago, a 22 year old Civic driver died on a meet after his car hit a tree and exploded into flames. Not being a "Nanna", just telling you how I feel.

PS#2: I'm not boring BTW, and love to push my car, but just letting you know I won't be going too overboard.

        Hey!

Thanks for the welcome. I will absolutely let you know of the people that are coming if they don't sign up here themselves. Theres not that many Qld members on there so I dunno how much luck I'll have, but I'll give it a go anyway. Will we just grab the booklet off you at the original meeting place? And have we decided on a final route, 'cos I'm a little confused? And I assume everyone's decided to eat at that fish and chip place? Definitely excited though, perfect way to christen my GTI!

        Cheers
        Steve

Dude that doesn't make you a Nanna. It makes you SMART! There is a time and place for most things but you've got to be smart and showing off on a cruise probably isn't the right place. We've all got nothing to prove! (hopefully). Everyone knows the car is quick and I'm not here to impress others, just to have a great drive and enjoy the company of likeminded people. Anyhow there will be plenty of opportunities to accelerate hard and get to the limit real quick (and do so safely). We'll see you on the day.

                • finishing time...

I've specifically organised work around this cruise, can anyone hazzard a guess as to time we may make it back to Brisbane? I have a lot of work to do the Golf before the cruise, hope it all gets finished!

                          • Hey, I need to drive to the Gold Coast the day I pick up my GTI. And for running-in purposes I don't really want to take the highway route. So I thought I might drive part of the Drive Day route - probably all of leg 1 and part of leg 2, up until just past stop 1 of leg 2. Then past Nerang there and over to Surfers Paradise. Is this gonna give me a bit of a taste of what the drive day will be like? And will it be easy for me to get lost on this suggested route? And how long will it take approximately? And those in the know (shaneth etc.), would you mind giving me the road names/directions that accompanied these maps? Sorry for all the questions, and if its too much hassle, don't worry. Thanks in advance.

                            Cheers
