Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Good work guys. Good to see the community being built in more regional parts.
See if you can get Willie Mason involved hey? Just wave a shiny VW badge in front of him and you'll have him hooked (make sure it's proper shiny though or he won't be distracted enough).
        Cheers,
        Trent

              Service in TVL

              Hi Guys,

I bought a Golf TDI 2002 about 2 months ago and need to do the log book service (110k miles mark), which includes changing the timing belt. I'm avoing the local VW dealer as it is usually very expensive. Do you know of a good and affordable mechanic in Townsville to do this job? Searching the net I found this site http://www.servautogroup.com.au/volk...GEN%20%28VW%29 suggesting two VW "specialists" in TVL: Twin Cities Automotives and Allen Street Automotive. I got a quote from them and it is nearly half the dealer's price. Has anyone have any experience with any of these two? Thanks a lot. Cheers.

No, sorry mate, but I'll ask around at work.

I haven't heard anything bad about the two mentioned but I am keen to hear other's opinions.
I just got my polo serviced at dealer - and while pricey the level of customer service was great by townsville standards

I originally went to Dealer with my Passat, customer service great, cost ridiculous!
I have since called Twin Cities Auto for a quote and also got great customer service and a great price..

The factory item can be had for just under 200us if your really concerned but id go for the bosch item (not like its an un-herd of brand) Should be easy to replace too.
