Thats like all the clubs I know of around the region, more of an oldskool aircooled club.
I do understand that they accept cars of our genre also, but I am aiming for a more modern styled club that creates its own scene and cluture.
Update, hope to be having our own site up soon guys.
This is exactly the sort of thing I'd be VERY keen to be involved in... Some decent interest from Gerald Slaven already too. I know how much Gerry and the whole Slaven team support the ACT HSV Club so I'm sure they'd consider similar support for a modern VW Club. Increases their profile with a brand they have only been selling for a little over a year too. There's a reason a lot of people think they're one of Canberra's best dealers.
Once I'm back in Canberra I'd be keen for a casual get together to discuss the future. Good on Stoie for starting the balls moving! I'm sure my sister would be in too - MkV Golf GT Sport.
Thanks Rocket36! - Hope we can have as many involved as possible.
Might speak to Slaven actually, I am all for having some support, whether it be by sponsorship or such. Would help us as a group a lot.
I actually have a site up and running people, so anyone wanting to get involved register at:
Hey guys, good to see the dubs are getitng out and about. I wanted to leave a quick note on the forum about the local VW community and specifically the Canberra Chapter of Club VeeDub. I note the few lines above about the club being an 'oldskool (school) aircooled club'.
Club VeeDub is open to owners of any VW, be they old or new, we have a number of modern VWs in the fold, and would love to have more involved with us.
We actively promote major events (eg German Autofest) through flyers left with the local mechanics and have wanted a larger following of the modern cars since we started here a few years ago.
The local chapter is part of the main club - Club VeeDub - situated in Sydney, but we run our own events and look after ourselves in general. We have the backing of the main club in areas such as event management, membership, and insurance. Membership also gives you a monthly newsletter (which includes many articles on modern VW issues), plus a number of other benefits. Sydney currently has some form of library for tools, manuals, and such and we are investigating having a similar setup here.
We had a large turnout of modern VWs at Autofest in 2009 and hope to build on this in 2010. We do not class ourselves as 'old school' and certainly do not want to be known as just a club for aircooled cars.
I'm not on here to turn members away from your Owners Club, I merely believe that your members should know that there is already a club running here in town. Its a hard community to work with and no matter what we do locally we still find many people who haven't heard that there is a club running here.
The Owners Club will differ from Club VeeDub in a few ways - we hold monthly meetings whereas you will probably just communicate on the internet. We have a budget behind us coming from membership and fundraising, I'm unsure if you will have something similar.
Local VW owners should be aware of the existance of both clubs and what they offer, hence this post. We would love to get more watercooled members to our events, we've had some great attendances in the past and look forward to seeing more in the future.
Thanks for the post up!
Yeah, did notice you guys but much of what I saw was aircooled and thus assumed it was more of an aircooled based affair. Anyway, we pretty much intend to have the same gig, currently we run monthly meet and special events like yourselves and I am currently actively focusing on making the club more or a membership/backed affair.
Anyway, we should try and organize a joint meet, always up for expanding on what little we have here in Canberra
