  • NSW The Annual VWWatercooled Summer Cruise - Sunday Jan 10 2010

    VWWatercooled Summer Cruise
    Sunday 10th January 2010
    Place: Uncle Leo’s Diner, Liverpool
    Time: 10:00 for a 10:30 departure
    Destination: Stanwell Park
    Arrival time: Approx 12:30
Parking is available in various parking lots on either Park Pde or Station Street

There will be a cruise through the national park to our destination or your welcome to meet us at the end point for lunch.

Many thanks to the boys from Care Care Products who are supplying meat for the BBQ and Camden GTI for supplying the transporter to get all the gear down there. We have a bunch of sausages, rolls and drinks ready for everyone.

    Details:
Uncle Leo's is about 3 minutes down the road (and on the way to Stanwell Park). Head down Orange Grove road towards Campbelltown following the Hume Highway, keep left onto Campbelltown Road and BAM, Uncle Leo's, otherwise known as the Cross Roads Truck Stop.

At the moment the route looks a lot like this, although is open to a little debate.

    Start: Campbelltown Rd
    1. Head southwest on Campbelltown Rd toward Quarter Sessions Rd 0.5 km
    2. Sharp right to stay on Campbelltown Rd 1.3 km
    3. Take the ramp onto Hume Hwy 3.5 km
    4. Turn right onto the ramp to South Western Mwy 20 m
    5. Keep left at the fork to continue toward South Western Mwy and merge onto South Western Mwy (Partial toll road) 14.9 km
    6. Take the exit toward King Georges Rd 0.5 km
    7. Turn right at King Georges Rd 6.0 km
    8. Continue onto Princes Hwy 11.1 km
    9. Slight left at Farnell Ave 1.5 km
    10. Continue onto Sir Bertram Stevens Dr 1.6 km
    11. Turn right to stay on Sir Bertram Stevens Dr 19.8 km
    12. Continue onto Lady Wakehurst Dr 12.2 km
    13. Continue onto Otford Rd 0.6 km
    14. Turn left at Lawrence Hargrave Dr 1.0 km
    15. Take the 1st left to stay on Lawrence Hargrave Dr 0.3 km
    16. Turn right to stay on Lawrence Hargrave Dr 0.2 km
    17. Take the 1st left 41 m
    18. Turn left at The Drive 0.2 km
    19. Continue onto Park Pde 0.2 km
END: Park Parade, Stanwell Park NSW 2508, Australia

    TOTAL: 75.7*km – about 1 hour 27 mins

The alternative route is through Campbelltown, then Appin, then Princess Highway and finally down Lawrence Hargrave Drice to Stanwell Park. At 68.9km it's only slightly shorter and has fewer mountain roads.

Hopefully my car will be all sorted by then, will need a good flogging.

Why do these things need to be so far away.

I'll be up for this, always a good turnout.

Should come down south plenty of nice beaches and good cruising roads.

I'm a fan of Berowa waters and Galston but its a windy one... Seems to be where I go after some mods to enjoy the changes.

It's the annual one so most likely to the South coast (cruise through Mt Keira or RNP?) and hitting the beach for a BBQ in the Stanwell area. It's always a great cruise and always a great turnout.

Yup, I`m in with bells on.

I vote for the Southern run, had a swim at the beach last time and it was an awesome day. Good driving roads too.

Stanwell Park is a nice spot and parking is usually pretty good, I'm considering options at this point but beach is high on the list

Can we make the drive a little bit more interesting this time? I'm sorry but last years one was pretty boring and straight roads. Apart from the group that went through the National Park on the way back!

Never been on one of these, but I live near Stanwell and when I like to go for a drive it is down the coast road and on to Jamberoo, up Jamberoo Mountain Road (stop at pie shop), down Illawarra Highway (Mac Pass) then up Mt Keira Rd. If your coming from Sydney, through the RNP is always good (I work Sydney way and try and do the Park once a week.)

I never get good fuel economy on this route, but its alot of fun!

If it is on down my way I will try to make it and meet some of you guys.
