Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Silly question but as a newbie I am unsure how the events work. Can any member of the forum attend the function or do you become a member of vwwatercooled?

IMHO, sections of the road between Gembrook and Launching Place are not to be missed.

ok just having a look at google maps looks like it might be a bit of a fun route. What are peoples thoughts on the following? I reckon a stop in warburton at the bakery for a coffee before continuing on to the dam via the spurs in reverse. From memory there is a butcher there as well if anyone needs supplies for the bbq? Might pay to check if its open on the saturday though.

I was thinking a 10am departure from a yet to be designated spot on wellington rd somewhere. Should see us at the dam by 1ish maybe? total distance to the dam is about 160kms + another 60kms back to melbourne or where ever home may be.

Unless there is any objection/addition to the route i might give it a trial run in the next week or 2. Ill be able to sort out a decent meet point after that.

Thats pretty much the route I was thinking of but starting at Furtree Gully.

Just a quick question isnt the road between Lyesterfeild and Menzies Creek dirt? Or is that just the one I have drievn/rally'd on

hahah use the above as a guide only! Ill edit it once the general idea is there. But yeah google maps may have used a shorcut here and there. I see its taken a shortcut before yarra junction!

There will be no unsealed roads on this cruise! As mentioned. once i get a chance to do a test run ill map out each turn and create a PDF with instructions for people to download and print.

just looking at the map perhaps we can start at the end of the burwood hwy and meet back up with the blue line at emerald

I took the time to drive the proposed route today. Its not too bad. The road from Gembrook to Yarra junction is pretty nice as had been mentioned earlier.

So in keeping with the original idea i just need to find a nice big carpark on wellington rd to use as a meet point. maccas/servo close by would be good so we can fuel up and get coffee from there id think the following

10am sharp departure from wellington rd
Follow the signs to emerald > cockatoo > gembrook > Launching place > warburton

depending on numbers we can stop at the bakery to regroup and grab something sugary

Departure from warburton 30 mins later > reefton spur > marysville > black spur > maroondah dam for a bbq at around 1pm ish (or however long it takes us to get there)

Trip out from wellington road to the dam is about 180kms so budget another 100kms to get home from there.

if anyone has something to add or any other ideas please speak up now before i lock this thread and create a new one with the finalised details.
