  • VIC 4th Annual VW Watercooled Maroondah dam BBQ Discussion

Well summer is only a couple months away boys and girls so I think its time to start getting organised for our summer cruises.

Keeping in mind DOVW will have people all dubbed out in mid November Im thinking around 6th - 13th of december. If you see any problem with these dates speak up!

All the guys that have attended in the past few years would know its usually a great social event mixed with a bit of a nice drive as well. So something for everyone.

In previous years we have headed out along the maroondah hwy towards the dam, had our BBQ and then gone for a lap of the spurs afterwards. It has been suggested to me to do the whole thing in reverse and head to the dam via warburton > spurs > maroondah dam > BBQ but im open to suggestion.

Anyways I thought id start this thread early on so we can formulate a plan. If anyone has suggestions on how we can improve the day on past years or would prefer a different cruise route just spill your ideas here so we can review them. Just keep in mind it has to co-incide with our BBQ at the Dam.. Thats the only thing set in concrete.

6th December is the Buller Sprints which a few Melbie peops are going up for so later is better

other than that, I really like the idea of driving first then having a BBQ, that way we can have a spirited drive then talk, relax and pootle off home with full belly's

Yep! I forgot about that. So 6th is out of the question as ill probly try and head up to Mt Buller for that one too. Im assuming only a few people will make the trek out there so will 2 events in 2 weeks be a stretch for those people?

As suggested b4 I can get cheap accomidation in a house at Mt Buller for all of us.

DOVW will be a pumping weekend as as stated some may be all Dubbed out. But Maroondah cruise is important. Dont know if people are keen on this but hows about a 6:30am kick for a big runs through the Dandenongs then through Monbulk then onto Warby and then Lunch

I think 6:30am may be a bit of an early start. Lets aim to his the Dam at lunch time perhaps? Normally that will see us leaving a meet point at 10ish? At the end of the day we are looking to attract as many people as we can. There has always been a focus on the social aspect of this day.

Id be interested in approaching the dam from the south through the dandenongs. If you know a good route spit it out!

we could go home through the dandenongs? Thats a bit more en-route!

but having said that, you can drive up Mountain Hwy to Sassafrass, then over the top of Mt Dande en-route to lillydale thats a real nice drive!

Thinking Meet somewhere. Drive to Ferntree Gully then turn off towards Monbulk, Launching Place, Warby, Browns rd towards Healsville then back onto Maroondah Hwy and lunch. All good sealed Raods

I'm in for it, Tim...and perhaps in between stops we can do informal shoots! I'll bring along my gear.
