Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Next Sydney area meet up

Those who were at Boris's picnic may remember we had a brief discussion about the next event. We came to the idea to plan it early and pitch a few ideas of where to go and what to do. We came up with around mid january to be the time if i remember correctly that is. A few of the ideas were heading down to Sanden Point(sp) anywhere but Bondi haha, and my idea of going out to Wakefield park for one of there track days.

I had a look on there website it's $90 for the day and $20 for a helmet if needed, we also may need a $40 wakefield park license, double checking on this.

Anyway, lets hear the suggestions and get this day going and have a good turnout!
    76 MkI 3 door - daily drive/project - 1.8 5speed
    76 MkI 3 door swallowtail - 16v track car
76 MkI 3 door "long term" project

Gee, a chance to puts those big brakes and the new suspension to the test
You're going to make me break my promise not to use the GTI in speed events aren't you?

Still Wakefield Park is one of the safer circuits - I had a punt around there a couple of years back in one of their V8 Auscars - a birthday present from the wife Great fun, except that there's an instructor dude in another car in front of you to make sure you don't go too fast
Was tempted to blow him off down the main straight, but decided against it...

I'll be in, except if its the middle of January (on holidays).

Thats a good idea, we should start to plan for the next cruise from now, and this time we can get a awesome turnout possibly 20 cars to show some watercooled force would be awesome.

My idea down to the gong light house good spot for photo opportunities if anyone wants to take photos. We can make our way through the National Park. I know that Matt wanted to try sound twisty and windy roads. Good scenery and a good drive. There are heaps of cafes at woolongong. If use want I'm going on a cruise this Sunday down there if use want I will take some pics of the lighthouse and show use what kind of an opportunity it is to take photos
I'm soo euro even my missus is shaved...

I reckon we need a show of hands for who wants to spend $150 on a trackday, so that we can book if need be.

Im well up for a cruise down to the gong anytime too.

              Awesome.

I'm ready to let the vr6 loose and waste 60L of petrol asap lol. Which ever one that we do I'm sure that it will be good.

                  Just heard back from them,
"track opens at 9am and closes at 4pm we have 3 x 20 min sessions run every hour being 1 for Race cars, 1 for street cars, 1 for open wheelers."

Would be an awesome day even for the cost, need to make very firm commitments though if it is going to happen.

Guys to be honest it better if we go to an easter creek open day. They are run by a private company.

                      Cost: $200
you get driver training, awesome lunch, unlimited drinks.

and if we get a nice group they will surely arrange for a special vw class.

I'll break down the cost for you guys.

                      Wakefield.
                      open day fee: $90
                      Lic for first timers: $40
Petrol will be two full tanks. $80-$90.
                      Total = $220'ish.
PLUS risk of break down tow - $500+ (2hr drive)

                      Eastern Creek:
                      open day cost: $200
                      Petrol 1 tank - $40
                      Total = $240.
Risk of break down tow: $100-$200 depending on where you live. (30mins to 1hr drive)

                      Thats the reality of it.

I'd rather go to EC for peace of mind but if most of you are sure your machinery can take it by all means wakefield would be awesome.

either way I will be there if my car is ready. It would truely be a sight to see a group of vw's on the track. I'm sure the vortex guys would come as well.

I'd still go if there were only 3-4 guys going. I can't see there being much more from this forum.

It's $250 for eastern creek now it seems. Still an expensive day we need to make a decision on it quickly and make definite booking if it will happen. The Vortex guys comign will be sweet too!

it's $200, I just went to one last tuesday.

was a quiet day and we could of had around 6 sessions had we wanted to stay back. 9-4pm.

I've been around Eastern Creek, but from what I saw - Wakefield looks safer - fewer things to hit

The two hour drive south (and back) is a pain though, I admit.
If we went there I think I'd be putting the GTI on a trailer anyway...
Two hours in the GTI is more than I could cope with, never mind the rest of the family

                              Tough choice.

In term of dates - I vote for any date except 20-21 January.
Preferably after, so I can get more things done on the car
