You don't need more mods mate... From what I've seen of some of these Pogs getting around I'd say your going to be giving most a good run for their money!

My mechanic was shaking his head at me this morning, saying I don't need more power, I need better brakes...

Power will continue to be fun when I've left the track. Can't say I often have to brake hard on the streets.

Have to agree with you there. I spent a small fortune on Brembo's for my Liberty (Is it ever a small amount when the word Brembo is mentioned ) & to this day I have never truly tested them out.

But it is nice to know that you have the stopping power to match the killer wasps

          Appropriate Helmet

What sort of helmet is required?

Does it have to be full-head?

Thinking of buying one, but want to be clear as to what I can / can't use.

Full face helmets are not required Although I would personally suggest you go for one.

Main piece of advice I can give you when it comes to helmets is comfort. Remember, you going to be travel at fairly high speed & wearing it for around 15 mins at a time... So whatever you purchase, make sure it's nice & comfy

Sorry, I'm asking same question here and also in Polo section

Yeah, guess its worth trying one on at least for sizing before i buy one...

Much better to have a car with an in-built timer then, I guess.

Aside from the Porsche 'Sport Chrono' option, out of curiosity what other cars have a built-in (factory) timer?

To slightly hijack the thread, if anyone has an iPhone 3G or 3GS with a car mount and is interested in helping test a lap timer application on the day please send me a PM.

Just for extra info, each brand varies in regards to sizes & comfort.

My friend bought a helmet on the weekend... He was XXL in one brand, but then L in another.

                    So just beware mate

Pretty sure the R35 GTR has that function built in

I know a few people who have timers that they put in their cars for track days... But unsure exactly how accurate they are.

Word is you can buy them on eBay from a mob in QLD for around $100.

                        Hi All

                        It’s almost track time!

Below are the main details / plan for the day:

                        Details

                        Track opens – 8:00 am
Driver’s briefing / Sign in - 8:30 am (compulsory for all drivers)
Track Time Begins - 9:00 am
Track Time Finishes - 4:00 pm

I will allocate you into groups (Of approx 6 cars) according to your track experience and will run 15 minute sessions each.

What you need on the day

                        * An ADR approved helmet (red sticker with ticks) – if you need to hire a helmet (Please advise so I can make prior arrangements), Wakefield Park does offer helmet hire, but they do have limited supply. So first in best dressed!

                        * Long-sleeved shirt / jacket, long pants, closed-in shoes with socks. Shoes with thin, flat soles are suggested, but are not required.

                        * Please ensure that your car is in good working order before arriving at the track (See Norm's (libsti) previous post for check list for more detailed info). Make sure to check your engine, brakes, tyres, suspension. Also, make sure you top up all your fluids. It is an expensive exercise to tow your car if it breaks down, not to mention an end to your trackday.

                        * Wakefield Park also charges a track license fee (Payable on the day) It costs $20 for a daily license, or $50.00 or a yearly license. If you currently hold a CAMS L2S License or above, just flash your CAMS license.

                        * Please have correct change for any cash payments on the day (Now that we have 20+ people confirmed, we are able to offer this )

The Café will be open all day. So no need to pack a lunch! Please take advantage of this as they are open only on request & do not receive any funds from Wakefield Park Raceway for their service.

It's also not a bad idea to have a tyre pressure gauge (Tyre pressures rise exponentually when on the track) to monitor / let down your tyres over the course of the day.

Also, as Wakefield is approx 10kms from Goulburn (IE - Servos!) it's not a bad idea to bring yourself some extra fuel in jerry cans. You can get 10L or larger jerry cans from Bunnings for around $12.00 +.

                        Directions on getting to Wakefield

Please see the link below which gives more details about getting to the track:

                        http://wakefieldpark.com.au/index.php?o ... &Itemid=56

The address is 4770 Braidwood Rd, Goulburn NSW 2580

I am aiming to get down to the track around 8:00 am with my Newcastle possie + a few others from my local area. Aiming to leave the Shire around 5:30 – 5:45 am, which should allow us time to have breakfast on the way down. Travel time (Shire - Wakefield) is approx 2 hours.

More then happy to meet up with others along the way, otherwise I’ll see you down there

                        Cheers
                        Matt

PS - Thanks Trieu for the help with this plan

                          swingn,

Thanks again for organising the track day - I'm very much looking forward to it!

Do you have a policy for passengers for driver education purposes? The two people I'm bringing are Wakefield first-timers and I'd like to be able to go out two-up with them in the morning sessions when they are learning the circuit.

If anyone else is heading up from Canberra I'd be happy to meet up to drive up together - probably somewhere between 6:30-7:00am at the Shell in Watson (near EPIC).

The S3 (like Timbo's car), among others from the Audi stable.

Wow - I didn't realise this was a feature of the Audis. Was this part of the standard Nav system or something that needs to be added (like the iPod connectivity etc)?

Any idea what models this applied to? I assume just the S/R/RS?

Those with a Nokia and bluetooth GPS need to go and check out RaceChrono.

Any app on the iPhone that uses the built-in GPS will not be as accurate as a proper bluetooth GPS, which is as accurate as the expensive timing solutions used by the racetracks. Because of the limited bluetooth stack in the iPhone, using a bluetooth GPS is impossible, or so I've been told.
