Any idea what models this applied to? I assume just the S/R/RS?
Just part of the multi-function display in the S3. Nothing to add.

That said, I've found RaceChrono simpler and easier to use, but you do need a separate GPS unit and the "right" phone.

It's a wonder there isn't something for the iPhone, with the tracks added, as per RaceChrono ?:

Very nice - will have to take a closer look next time and see what other models have the same feature.

Working on that right now, hence the call for testers above...

The iPhone 3GS has improved GPS reception, and if the GPS data is correlated with the compass and accelerometer data then identifying proximity to pre-defined points (like track start/finish lines) is fairly accurate.

I know that my $1000 Race Logic GPS timer is accurate within 1/10th where I've compared its times to those from the circuit's looped timing system - the testing above is to see how accurate my iPhone algorithms are compared to the Race Logic.

Personally I think the iPhone is an overhyped regular phone, driven by nothing more then Apple Marketing and Apple fanbois. This current one is better then the 3G one, but it's only now got features that I've had in the last 4-5 phones.

Thanks again for organising the track day - I'm very much looking forward to it!

Do you have a policy for passengers for driver education purposes? The two people I'm bringing are Wakefield first-timers and I'd like to be able to go out two-up with them in the morning sessions when they are learning the circuit.

If anyone else is heading up from Canberra I'd be happy to meet up to drive up together - probably somewhere between 6:30-7:00am at the Shell in Watson (near EPIC).
Not a worry mate Happy to do it & fingers crossed this won't be the last Wakefield track day I organise (Already thinking about a day next year - Needs to be winter for turbo weather! )

Was going to run through that sort of stuff on the day Obviously for the noobs (Which includes myself mind you) I would encourage taking advantage of Len's (Driving Instructor) services & experience... At the end of the day, the more people who take advantage of this, the cheaper it will be for all. At this stage I'm expecting it to be no more then $35.00 per person (Hopefully less).

As a starting point, when we do go out on the track for the first time, basically we will have a sighting lap/s so we can see the track first hand before hitting it at speed.

Unfortunately (Bar having a driving instructor) I don't believe Wakefield allows passengers on the day. I'm not 100% about this, but I will confirm before the day for everyone

Checking this out now Hopefully it'll work nicely with my N96

Excuse my ignorance, but do you need anything other then the phone (& software of course) to make it work?

They normally will allow passengers, I don't think I've done a day where they haven't allowed it. Oran Park and Eastern Creek almost always say no.

You can use the internal GPS ... hhmmm not sure if you need to join the beta test team. You're MUCH better off getting a bluetooth GPS, can get them from ebay for cheap. I already had a bluetooth GPS that I used with a PDA for TomTom.

I know they have allowed passengers in the past, but I believe that has changed.

Will confirm next time I speak to Wakefield

                    Spoke to soon!

Here is a quote from the Wakefield thread in the Polo section:

oh also, if anyone looking for a helmet I have one sitting down @ home gathering dust. PM ME!

I *might* be getting my S3 on this day. Not sure if I'll make it to Wakefield for a looksy, but I do plan on taking a day off work on delivery day.

An S3 would be most good on the track!

Just came back from Wakefield where I ran the Mazda RX8 Nationals.
                              The S3 ran a 1.12.390...
                              See you all on Friday
                              Cheers
