  • NSW EOI Dyno challenge 2010 Nationals

I had a thought and I ran it by some people who thought it was a good idea .

I was thinking we stage a dyno day , limited to 15 cars which must make a minimum of 200kw atws . Tuners and businesses will take priority before the general public . I was thinking the Friday night before the nationals ? This year is too soon and next year will see some pretty crazy cars that should be finished .

Would you get 15 cars there making that sort of power? The time and effort would be much better used for a track day imo

Yea, I can't say I really know of too many cars that have that much power. Both water and aircooled cars that is.

and It seems like a fair effort for only 15 cars...

Personally, I wouldn't find this event interesting enough to attend.

The participants might though, sort of a shoot out scenario.

if you look at successful events like the summernats, springnats and easternats they all have varied events across the weekend. I think a show and shine only has so much appeal. If there are different things to look forward to its a lot more interesting. Id find a dyno shootout of interest if there was enough competition. I quite like seeing peoples cars in action. Could be fun.

Is there any sort of motorkhana event planned? Surely that would be something that lots of people could have fun with.

                I'm with Tim on this.

It's branching out & making the event more interesting for people, instead of driving 1000km & sitting in a beer garden getting drunk! haha.

After entering & been involved in event's such as Easternat's & Performance Car Mania at Winton, I personally am not a fan at all of static car show's anymore & find it very boring. I'd rather go to an event & see car's being used/hammered incl. my own car.

Are you thinking of only limiting it to VW air & watercooled Seb?

200kw's at the wheels is a big call... Maybe drags like the Nats in the 90's

My thoughts about limiting it to cars with X kW ATW is that anyone entering will almost certainly know already what their car produces, and there'd be limited appeal in putting their car on another dyno (though it would potentially sort out some of the "your dyno operator makes your car look better" arguments.

What would, to me, prove to be interesting would be a "before and after" dyno run on work that can be completed on a car in a set period of time (reflashes, intake mods, exhaust mods, etc). This would give real-world performance increase benchmarks for a variety of mods, and could prove to be very interesting to a large number of people.

One question I have relating to dynos - we all know they can be used to measure engine power - what about braking force?
                    Nothing to see here...

Well if 15 cars dont enter then its whatever enters ?

I just thought of it as a small event , same weekend as the nationals when there is a large amount of people here . If you think this is boring I dont get it , you'll see the same type of cars at the show although instead of being a static display there would be something happening . The only thing that happens at the VW show is the engine blow . If it wasnt for catching up with old buddies I worked with I wouldnt bother going .

Pump fuel , race gas - who cares whatever tickles your fancy

I can think of 5 companies that fit the critea of min of 200kw atws and 25 cars either being built or finished Australia wide . Im sure there is more out there that I dont know about

If there were 25 cars there then defiantly it'd be good fun!

Could be a bit monotonus (spelling?? ie boring] if they're all mk 5 GTI's imo. ie same cars doing the same thing..

Maybe a mini motorkhana [like only a few different set ups] and or drags/ go-to-woah, could make for some pretty good viewing imo!

it'd be good to see anything on there, seb has a point.. its a static display and other then the engine blow up .. what has changed?

good to keep the same but also bring in some new too .. would be a good idea, might .. oh god lets say it.. BRING SOME YOUNGER PEOPLE into the scene too for the show lol
