Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Thanks Dave for organising this. It was stinking hot with the 1st run at 32 degrees and the last (Guy's) at 36 degrees. Im very happy with the results of my latest mods .... 139.6kw atw roughly equals 171kw atf ..... on a Polo with a stock turbo

Guy ran 102 race fuel with the APR Race map and 4 degrees of timing advance (as Jon said) for what must now be the most powerfull MK5 GTI in Australia ....

300kw atw without even breaking a sweat. Absolutely awesome.

I've got Guy's dyno printout with me and will post a scanned image up here on Monday.

112.8kw was ok. Thought a bit more was there.

                    Thanks Fella's -

Just the off the shelf stage 3 APR kit, Elf WRF fuel (102 ron 2.6% oxygenated), the production APR race gas file - standard boost.

                    402 whp!

Mind you, we did replace our PCV valve which was leaking (probably has been for some time) - car is an absolute rocket, is driven 150km's every day in the traffic. Looking forward to the Qld Raceway sprint series next year

I guess I'll be the first one to call B/S ?

Last time I checked we live on Earth and not Mercury , 243 degree intake air temps are just not possible ! What would the boost temperature be ? 300 degrees ? Umm , sorry , no but all the plastic would have long since melted .
And a gt28 making 500 flyhweel HP , not unless its high flowed with a .86 housing and not the standard unit , it cant physically pump enough air to flow 500 hp . How about you redyno the car with a more realistic figure of about 240-250kw atws .

X2 (actually X 59,837)!!! didn't want to be the first to say anything.

guy's really not the type to b/s his results, why would he/anyone bother.

i understand that intake temp is ridiculously high but if the car did not catch on fire and the result is there, i'm sure guy has an explanation for it.

i hate it when people shut down great results, puts a dampener on everything.

i wish i could have made it to the day to see that result, but the free booze at my christmas party was just too tempting ! great result for you too johan, considering the heat in that shed!

There were 8 cars running ... chipped Golf GTI made 150.2kw atw right before Guy's run. More than 10 people (other than Guy and the dyno operator) saw the run and only 3 were APR customers to some extent so no benefit in lying. (Even a bogan in VZ V8 Commodore that almost fainted when he saw the figures ...LOL)

I suspect the temp probe was touching something it should not have as nothing was melting and the run was clean. So no B/S here I'm afraid.

I'm sure Guy will be able to reproduce this (and more) at any dyno you care to nominate. He was estimating another 30whp as probable with some more fine tuning.

I dont think you understand how a dyno works . A car can only make a certain amount of power based on how much air you can force into it . A turbo flows X amount of air which will give Y power . When you get more power than what is physically capable of what the turbo can do then obviously the figures are fudged .
e.g. , if a student at school gets 105% for an exam , do you congratulate him , or question how he can get more than 100% ????

APR figures have always been excessive , did you ever see the 30+kw from an exhaust from an S3 ? There is a lot more from years gone by . The one time this car comes down to Sydney it only makes some 215kw . The same dyno I was accussed of tampering with to give higher figures on my own cars . And yes there is an explanation of the higher intake air temps , to raise the power the vehicles making !

Im sorry but Im realistic , the dyno is b/s and Im happy to give people a quick run down on how a dyno works and how you can change factors to make power thats not actually there .
