Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

The Hawks Travel Plan DOVW 2008

Tight arse Tuesday 11th November, fill up the VR6 in preperation.

06:00 Friday 14 November the trip begins in Campbelltown.

    141km. (Total 141km)
08:00 Breakfast in Goulburn. (refuel the VR6)
08:30 Leave Goulburn and head for Gundagai and the Dog on the Tuckerbox

    180km. (Total 321km)
10:45 Quick stop off in Gundagai for photo's of the dog. (refuel the VR6)
11:00 Leave Gundagai heading for Albury Wodonga

    183km. (Total 504km)
13:15 Lunch in Albury Wodonga. (refuel the VR6)
    13:45 Head off towards Wangaratta

    69km. (Total 573km)
14:30 Laugh at Wangaratta's funny name. (refuel the VR6)
    14:31 Keep driving towards Melbourne

    286km. (Total 859km)
18:00 Arrive in Dandenong. (refuel the VR6)

Total travel time 12 Hours, including decent breaks.

Estimated Total fuel at 9L/100km is 78L
    98Ron @ $1.80/L = $140.40

If you ditch all the breaks besides refuel and piss stops you can cut that down to 10 hours, but this is a road trip

End destination is also dependant on where you plan on staying. There is a Formula1 in Dandenong or the Tourist Park: http://dandenong-tourist-park.vic.big4.com.au/ Your looking at ~$60 a night at the Formula 1 or round $120 a night in the tourist park although you can split that a couple of ways making it round the same money.

I have a shotgun seat available if anyone wants a ride and I offer very cheap rates . I'm also open to offers of any beds that may be available in any party houses that might be happening Or anyone who wants to share a cabin in the tourist park.

If it has an engine or heartbeat it's going to cost you.

hahah Too much planning for a roadtrip!

And it'll take closer to 10 hours with the breaks. This was with the odd bit of roadworks and alot of crusing under/on 110. Going up to Nats this was. 12 hours is a huge over estimation IMO. Unless you're stopping for a 3 course lunch.

It can be done in about 7 hours. although that's a story for another day.

It's more an estimate than a hard and fast plan, it will be leave at 6am, get there when I get there.

Yes, yes I have. I'm going on Friday morning one way or the other and wouldn't mind some company for what is otherwise a very long drive. Would be great if there is a communal party atmosphere while on the way as well as while there too

Surely when coming from another Dub it's only friendly fire?

                haha..

ive copped enuff after a front end spray .. it has under 6 months on it and you should see the stone chips from the cruises alone!

i wouldnt want any poor bastard behind me with the 265s cuz i know they would throw up something (argh!)... however i find city driving the worst for stone chips, esp uncovered trucks!

Come to Canberra we don't allow trucks, they're far too working class I know what you mean though, on the VR with black paint the chips stand out like dogs danglies

It looks like plan A is heading out the window, looks like a no to the staged roadtrip.

Plan B is drive till I get there.

If anyone ends up wanting/needing to tag along either in another car or is after a shotgun seat let me know.

If it has an engine or heartbeat it's going to cost you.

Pffft planes, not my favourite things, rather be behind the control myself, even if it means a long drive... although it also means I get a chance to enjoy my car, so I think it will be worth it.

Up until July this year I hadn't been on a plane in 12 years and this will be the 7th and 8th lol
