Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

A small turn out, but still a good drive was had

Apparently daddy's car is too loud

But he still wanted to drive home

If it has an engine or heartbeat it's going to cost you.

        Thanks for the photos Aaron

That was a nice Cruise yesterday, can't wait to for another one, but I'll make sure I've got a full tank of 98 next time the Robertson 95 is sluggish

        I'll post my Photos tonight.

          Hi guys,
Yesterdays cruise was great, just what the Doctor ordered as far as stretching the legs and playing in the twisties (except when L-platers and commodores got in the way)

The drive back was just as lively, played cat and mouse with Dave in the other Mk 4 GTI.

Nice meeting Ali, David and Phil, and puting faces to the nicknames!

          Whens the next cruise?

          _Dave

Yeah that was fun, I'd not done anything like it before and enjoyed finding new roads to explore. Thanks to everytone for organising/coming along.

I'll upload some pics later... the rolling ones look okay

Hawk's VR6 is possibly the best V6 I've heard this side of a Ferrari dino. It makes Z-cars sound like drain-pipe equipped mirages. For the uninitiated his VR has an M3 rasp but also balls like a Cobra - it sounded truly awesome through the forests (but not on the highway, lol) and made my 1.8T sound very very ordinary.

            The highlights for me included:

            - Watching Phil's (red Mk3) left rear brake literally catch fire coming down Jamberoo. There must have been leaves or other detritus garbage caught up in the wheel well. I was about 30 sec from flagging him down and whipping out the extinguisher when the fire stopped...

            - The perceived (but not actual) irony I imagined was felt by the XR8 and SS drivers that held us up in the RNP. Ordinarily you'd think a gaggle of Golfs (Golves?) would slow down a late model V8, but not today...

            - Macquarie. I suspected there were roads like this within 100km of Sydney but hadn't found any yet. I've been in sydney for about a year (and had a poxy auto Commodore that hated hills, corners and come to think of it straights) and hadn't gone looking for twisties yet.

            - Discovering that my brakes could survive a spirited downhill run. I had my doubts about their size and ventilation.

            - Third gear.
Turbo torque, linking corners, hearing the DV echo off cliff faces... I'd forgotten driving in the city seems to involve too much gear changing and not holding one gear through bends while moderating the throttle.

Good to see some of you out and about. Sorry to miss out on the lighthouse pics. Children wanting icecream or some such nonsense.

Had fun going down the mountain and I had fun going up, the passengers did not

Funny that a Mk3 was the oldest and slowest car there, not long ago on one of our cruises it would have been one of the newest.

All out for the official summer cruise I reckon. lets get more than 50 this time.
