12th Oct | NSW: The biggest Aussie VAG (watercooled) cruise ever...
So how many people are going to this thing? Might go and have a look if I'm not working and can get up early enough.... Seems like a nice drive..... Taking the very very scenic route i see..
I went for a drive out there today to scout things as far as meet/food goes. Here's what I got:
River Bank
No BBQ facilities
Reasonable parking (I have no idea what the head count is, but it's a factor all the same)
Amenities block
Maitland Triathlon on from 6am till 11am...they may all stick around though so may be crowded?
Ray Lawler reserve
It's at the north east end of town.
Electric BBQ
A coule of park seats/covered.
Toilet block
Again not sure of numbers, but parking would be tight. Photo ops
Morpeth BC
Good parking/facilities
I have never eaten there though so no idea what menu is like.
Footy field
May be tight, can use BC parking aswell.
Would need to bring own BBQ (but you could do that for the river bank to)
Sit in the grandstand
River Royal Inn
Sits in a solitary position away from the "CBD".
Restaurant open Sunday for "Brunch". Doubt that extends to our time frame but we will see.
Cafe/ Take Away
Plenty of small cafe/take-away shops scattered throughtout the main street, plus the commercial hotel. Get a feed there and drive down to the bank to eat or something?
My vote is the Ray Lawler Reserve. If people want to bring there own snags and tongs it suits them, they can cook while we get lunch from a cafe, back to the reserve to eat and chat....whatever from then...
so... is this really gonna be the biggest VAG cruise..
how many forums r coming?
We`ll see. We had 50+ on the big summer cruise.
That was just vwwatercooled.

damn thats a huge trek. I keep telling myself i need to check this section more often and then never do. I'm pretty freakin keen to come hey...
There is a Westfield Shopping Centre close to the finish point on the google maps link that Mischa provided.
There is a little trek that some people on the central coast call 'the midnight run'.
What I suggest is that the journey finish up at the shopping centre so that everyone can stock up/freshen up for the sprint down the freeway and then they can decide to go straight home (wyong exit is 2 mins away) or go for a quick cruise down the pacific highway.
