VWA brought 2 of these to Australia for evaluation.
They were silver and gold and both ended up in Tas due to our relaxed rego rules back then. 5 cyl. assembled in China and were a nice car to drive.

Correct, they do still sell these new in china. they use them for taxis too.
much the same as some mk2 stuff i believe, the chinese purchased the equipment from the westmoreland vw plant in america and still produre some cars from that model range. not sure what exactly
these santanas are decent cars, i used to live in china so i got to go in them alot

Ahh yes the ole Sultana, shares some bits with Nissan I believe.
We got loads of Jap import ones, ugly as sin and not many left here either as most seem to have been trashed by their owners.

Santana/Passat Mk2 was never built in the US; in other words none of the US factory lines is in China, they were infact shipped to South Africa to make the CitiGolf.

Currently in China they build a LWB version of the car for sale and a heavily revised version called Santana Vista.

The Japanese bits (wipers & windows etc) are actually when Nissan produced the Santana in Japan for Volkswagen.

They were sold as Passats in South Africa in the late 80s & 90s. My mother had a met red GLX5 ... 1.9 5cylinder carby ... went great and sounded awesome. The GLX5 made way eventually to a CLX, 2.1 carby and then a CLi, 2.1 f/i

They were discontinued mid 90s and not replaced .... South Africa was then Passat-less untill about 2003 when the now previous model started appearing.
