Spacers do put more torque onto the stud/bolt because the wheel can technically rotate and put more load on the stud. But really, you will break the wheel before you break a stud. I've seen it many times. Top Fuel Dragsters run at least 1 inch spacers on the rear with roughly the same diameter and number of studs.. They don't seem to have problems.....
