Why all the hassle in adapting a 8v head? Just get a non turbo 1.8 20v motor, good for 125hp without any mods.

What about the JH/ABA hybrid that I've seen around on VWVortex, thoughts on it from the more experienced folks on here?
It seems simple enough, and I'm sort of accepting that I won't see those numbers I was initially after and I'm okay with that.
If it comes down to it I'll just rebuild the JH, I mean, it's pretty fun to drive. I just don't get the 8.5:1 compression ratio :/

Only mk4 2.0 engines are crossflow unless you get a US ABA motor. Mk4 crossflow head on an external water pump block is doable but requires some head modifications to the oil returns.
Mk3 2.0 with mk2 gti head is the best bang for your buck in terms of NA, but honestly the difference is barely noticeable compared to a mk2 gti complete engine. Both have been done to death and there is lots of info about.77 Mk1 GLS 2 door - That sinking feeling

I'm running an 8v RV (mk2 gti head) and a mk3 2.0L bottom end with twin weber 40 IDFs and a 272 cam. Car dyno'd just under 70kw at the wheels and the engine cost the better part of $500 to build. Keep it simple and go the 8v route. I've also got a 297 cam that might be available if you're interested

You want an interesting engine?
Full of expensive bits. Hate to think what it's worth and I doubt it's new owner would part with it.Last edited by sports racer; 20-08-2015, 11:30 AM.1978 MK1 2.0 16v http://www.vwwatercooled.com.au/foru...-46488-70.html
