Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • NSW Golf Mk4 Driver's Side Door Lock Housing

Hi folks, I'm after the driver's side lock cylinder assembly for the Mk4. The module is fine, the cylinder is fine, even the housing is fine.
All the other little bits are not! But prepared to buy the whole lock (minus the module of course).

Willing to pick up anywhere in Sydney for a good price. Cheers.

It is common for backs of these to break so I normally have these in stock, I believe that there are 2 types one being a short tail and the other a long. Do you have a picture of the other bits of have they fallen in the door cavity?

Hey mate, sadly they fell in as I jiggled the lock out. The housing popped out and got stuck (I later managed to fish it out) and everything including the spring dove into the cavity. If it helps, my passenger side lock looks like this:

I will have a look later today what I have but I'm pretty sure the repair kits I have don't come with the C clip. They aren't fun to retrieve from the door cavity either

OK, mine come with the clip so it should be all you need. I can do it for $25 plus postage.

Thanks mate, got your repair kit today and installed it myself. Had to wrestle putting in the spring properly, but otherwise it works a dream!
