  • VIC time to look for a new motor

    well its time to look for a new motor and do some work to it. there is nothing wrong with the diesel but its tie for some power! not sure what i am after yet, but definately petrol. more than likely a 1.8. any thoughts on where to start and anyone got anything lying around?

      depends how crazy you want to go. But for starters I'd look at something like what Pete Jones has in his red mk 1. mk3/cordy 1.8, with a DGV style weber, electronic ignition, extractors and a nice exhaust.

      if you're after a bit more poke, go for a mild cam (g grind). This is a pretty straight forward swap, and plenty of documented info here on it. It'd probably be the easiest to do.

      Maybe consider a 5 speed at the same time? (and bigger master cyl and booster! )

          I may have a 1.6L EZ engine/gearbox out of a mk2 up for grabs soon if thats of interest. Only 75HP but its low km/good runner but anything is quicker than a mk1 diesel

            There's a couple of 1.8s still with their 5 speed boxes attached down at Centre Road wreckers if you're quick. You'll have to pull them out of a Cordoba is all.

                Sounds good mate, but it's going to be a big Learning experience getting it in the car let alone pulling a motor out at a wreckers. I have never done anything like this before.
