  • NSW Stock Golf R Intercooler

    Hi all,

Selling stock Golf R intercooler. I've been told it's 20-25% more in volume over the stock GTI ones so good bargain upgrade.

Comes with hoses etc to direct fit. Should be plug and play.

Asking $175. Pick up preferred but can post at your expense. Located Sydney.

FYI for those that don't know about these ICs.

They are the same IC as fitted to the current Audi S3 and were done as an upgrade to the old metal end-tank S3 ICs.

The core is 38.7mm with 40mm end tanks.

Improvements over the full metal S3 core:
4 more bars spaced more closely together
    * More equivalent frontal surface area, as well as internal cross sectional area - improved flow capacity

The plate design inside the bars are more closely packed
    * Improved efficiency due to greater rate of heat transfer

    Smoother flowing end tank ports
    * Improved flow characteristics compared to the S3 fittings which have steps in diameter causing turbulence.

        That's OK.

I upgraded to one of these from a 32mm core about 6 months back and as the weather warms there is a definite improvement in the consistency of torque and power and a bit more of a kick as revs rise.

          I'm assuming it's for 1.8T / 2.0T only?

So it's a decent upgrade from the stock GTI unit?

I always thought they were the same - so I knocked back a near-free one ages ago from a mate of mine.

I think the 1.4 twincharger has the same footprint for the IC but I don't know enough about the other models to give a definite answer. basically, if it's GolfV/VI platform with an FMIC then it will probably fit.

AGC - really early GTIs were 32mm core in some markets - so it's a definite yes if you have the 32mm core.

If you think going from a 38mm GTI core to the full alloy 40mm S3 unit was a decent upgrade then this would be too as it flows better than the full alloy unit but hasn't got the mass.

Pretty certain the 1.2T 77TSI and 1.4T 90TSI engines have the intercooler built into the inlet manifold on the engine - so basically you cannot upgrade them.

I understand that the 1.4 twincharge engine uses the same intercooler setup as the GTI and R - therefore theoretically you should be able to use this Golf R intercooler on any of these platforms.

                    Stock Golf R Intercooler

This will fit the Tiguan 2.0TSI also - done this upgrade from a 32mm core and picked up around 10kW due to removing the restriction in the stock unit.

Also knocked off 0.3 sec for the 0-100. A bit of work to fit the new intercooler but definitely a worthwhile upgrade.

Will also fit a 1.8tsi Yeti and off course a 147 Jetta.

Possibly even a 147 Passat, 147 EOS, Audi TT, etc These VAg cars are like mechano sets under the different skins
