Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

I believe the only Passat that may be able to accommodate these is an Alltrack with the plastic guard extensions. But happy to be proved wrong.

    Hi guys

Although it appears that it's too late for me to consider these particular wheels, I wanted to get my head around the numbers we were discussing about how much further out these would stick out compared to my stock Omanyt's.

I stuck the data into a calculator I found as below as best I could:

    Wheel-Tire - RIMSnTIRES.com size comparer&sw1=235&ar1=40&bd1=18&rw1=8.0&et1=44&sw2= 235&ar2=35&bd2=19&rw2=9.0&et2=33&text1=Stock R36 18`s&text2=Savannah 19`s

and it seemed to suggest that they would stick out only 11mm more. Is this calculator missing something? I'm keen to get an understanding of what will fit going forward - any further advice would be appreciated!

      Yes, the calculator is faulty.
It doesn't take into account that the wheel itself is an extra 1" wider than the stock omanyts 8" wde ET44.

        A quick question for you....

I had another look at the calculator and, like you said, it doesn't seem to take into account that the wheels are an inch wider. But as far as I can interpret, this is because the tyres are wider than the wheels in both situations (235's).

Having little practical knowledge of fitting wheels, I was wondering if this rings true, or if in practise the wheel is always the outer edge of the package anyway?

I think with the 19x9's you would want to run 255/35R19 tyres or similar. 235/35's are really stretched on a 19x9. These are what Dewey is currently running.

Using the "correct" tyre size gives 21mm more poke.
