Yes GPS works flawlessly, phone calls etc these were not issues to begin with. The DNS is at a stage of something akin to Release Candidate (past beta) and is stable to use but a couple of features may not work or work as intended / should. For example the phone call steering wheel button still does not pickup a call / end call if one is in progress. The ANS unit did this, so it will be fixed but from what I can tell they've been making changes through the software interface and have not moved on to steering wheel / MFD bugs (which are relatively minor) yet. I wouldn't have allowed an initial batch of units to be ordered if the unit was still freezing and crashing.

      • Had a chance to check out the iPod interface Sandy? and the MFD is still 1 line?

So all things going well, our first batch will be shipped by Friday, so you'll get it by mid the next week? So now we're looking at mid November...

It can be a race to see what gets here first, the DNS or my new laptop (the new QHD Dell XPS15) :p

        • Sandy, do you know if we will get tracking information regarding the units being shipped out next week? Curious of the time frame coming from China to the US... Oh course, this is assuming they actually ship out next week. Also, any word on eta for android mirror link?

I am fairly certain the iPod interface is unchanged, but I haven't had a chance to test yet. I would recommend as I have though that until the new ID3 library function is released, just use SD / USB to load your music - iPod would be missing shuffle and song memory functions at this stage (though ironically you can browse by ID3 info i.e. artist, album etc).

MFD is still one line, they have not moved on to MFD / steering wheel function fixes yet, but I think three line MFD is a little further away in any case.

Tracking will be provided, with DHL from the factory it shouldn't take very long, definitely within a week once shipped.

I did get one piece of unexpected news from Audiosources just tonight, and that is that they have not commissioned a DNS-510 due to low demand. I do admit that I sell significantly less of these and the situation is not much different in the Chinese domestic market (only difference there is 610 is the overwhelmingly popular unit instead of the 810). I do wish they told me this earlier, but I think there are only 2 or 3 people in this entire group buy that have opted for the 510. I will send a message out to see if they want to change to 610 or 810.

Fair enough. I imagine it should carry across the iPod configurations (ie shuffle/memory etc, since from iOS6.1 they got rid of the accessory block so you can control the music from the device itself instead of the HU).

              Keen as to get it

The response I have from them is that they are focussing on perfecting the software for now and will shift focus to these advanced features after they are satisfied with the state of the software.

                  • That's fair. I'm really keen for the Android mirroring, OBDII & DAB+ units once the main system is all sorted.

                    • Once this unit is perfected with total integration to the steering wheel and MFD (GPS directions etc), and includes DAB+, then I will be buying one...

Not to worried about the android mirroring (however I can imagine that if I have it, i'll love it)...

Hopefully will be done in around 6 months...

                      • I'm keen to get onto the next batch of these units - Sandy when do you reckon the 2nd batch will start? (Assuming all goes to plan with the first batch)

                        • So, for now, what are they fixing for the first release? I mean, what will the device come with when the first users got it. It seems it would be pretty usable.

Regarding the iPod interface, I'm sorry but it's not a valid answer to say that you should use SD/USB. If ANS810 has iPod interface it should work at least as well as SD and USB...

Will you make any new video Sandy?

                          Comment

                          • I expect the next batch which will be the proper release to be ready in about 3 weeks. They are fixing the glitches and small missing / incorrectly working features. The device on first release will have everything promised minus ID3 browse-able library, mirror link, OBD2, trip recorder and multi-line MFD, all of which will be pushed to future updates. Further things that will be developed (these were not going to be in the first release from the beginning) include MFD GPS directions, MFD phonebook and DAB+.

The iPod interface has had little to no update from the latest ANS software. That is to say, you can browse by ID3 tags (artist, album etc), but it is missing shuffle function and song memory after shutdown. The original idea was that once the full music library feature was implemented it would include iPod so everything is in one unified interface. However since this did not make the first release, iPod is for now stuck to be the same as the ANS - this is where I am recommending SD / USB for the moment, unless you don't mind not having shuffle and song memory. They may even decide to update the iPod before implementing the library feature, if they feel the library feature is still a long time away.

I will just add that if you are running iOS6.1 or higher, you are not locked in accessory mode and can control features like shuffle through your iPod. This is a legitimate workaround, but the last report of someone doing this, apparently the song name displayed does not match the currently playing song. I don't have access to any iOS6.1+ device to test with so I can't really say if it's any different now.

I will make a new video when the unit is closer to proper release - I don't see much sense in making another video with some bugs in it when I will have to make one in a few weeks again.
