  • QLD EOI: Wheel bearing replacement tool

I was looking around for a tool to replace wheel bearings with and found some nice tools in the USA for $550 ....... Looked around and on vortex found somebody made their own. A local machine shop is prepared to make some of these for me ....

Ill post the link to use to use it tonight ...

local price about $100 plus shipping. More sets mean less cost .....

let me know what the interest is, may also do sets for control arm bushes ......

i love the idea as i am a ghetto booty fab lover myself but just a heads up but the thread on that rod will more than likely be the fail point in this design. i've even used high tensile threaded rod with similar home made bushing press tools and the thread always let go. If everything goes to plan and you've got some heat you might just have luck with it. Might. I find americans always seem to have more access to awesome useful tools but that is because they're alot cheaper over there and there's a culture or a mentality that cars need to be worked on and bits need to be replaced regularly (helps that bits are usually cheaper than they are here too).

but yeh if you look at any of the professional tools which do this sort of job you will see they use a much heavier duty threaded rod made from proper grade steel with a very coarse thread and are capable of sustaining much higher levels of torque application which is usually required when you don't have a handy blow torch to heat things up and get some rapid expansion/contraction happening.

PS: there's nothing quite like having the right tools for the job. the extra money spent is irrelevant once the ease of use is discovered. a group buy of an appropriate hand held press with the right assortment of cups and spacers would be a good idea as the bastard things are expensive here.
