  • NSW SYD: PD150 TDI Intake to suit 8v Diesels

    VW Golf PD150 Intake
    From European PD150 TDI
    Code: 038129713AF

Much Much better than stock intake.

It will fit any 8v Diesel Engine, so the Mk3 TDI 1Z, 1Y, then the TDI ALH and the newer PD diesels. Some of the Mk5's came with 1.9 and 2.0 8V that this will work with.

Will suit anyone that wants to upgrade the TDI with a front mount so you can have shorter intercooler pipes (no pipes running back behind the intercooler then up to engine)

I have cleaned it for you inside and out with the Gerni

    Ready to bolt on ... $240 +post

Inside intake plenum - note that It is still a bit wet inside the intake the dark marks is just water

I'd love it...but can't justify expenditure... not without seeing what gains it will provide. Got any links to outcomes?

On a stock car you will see next to nothing - just like in your autospeed article with a more free flowing CAI... the CAI works but the ecu is compensating as you are not changing the fueling!

doing mods one at a time to see what gains it gives can give you so-so results. Mods work in combination with each other.

gains are hard to measure for this intake - but you get better breathability when you start doing mods - larger injectors nozzles, pump upgrades, intercooler, turbo etc.

A PD150 intake is the cheap upgrade - and fits with minimal modifiactions (ie just hoses) - it comes from a stock VW TDI with 150 BHP hence why it is called a PD150 intake, and will still be good for cars with 200HP+ before you really spend $$$ on performance and need to go to a Plenum intake... and that will cost you over USD$650

stock intake manifold on my 1Z and most others are really constricted in size and limit the air flow to outer 2 cylinders. Most of the air is directed to the 2 center cylinders - as can be seen here for USD$569 for a stock replacement !!!

I have already only done Stage 2 ECU program, PowerPlus520 injector nozzles, Oil Air separator Catch can and Mufflerectomy - with some big gains!
an PD130 intake is next for me and will be put on next week when I find a silicone hose that fits!

Here is a linky as to what can be done: http://www.stealthtdi.com/Performance.html

          Thanks for the link.

          From that link:

"The stock airbox is known to flow over 170-hp"

          and

"An intake manifold from a European PD130 Passat TDI....[is] known to flow over 200-hp."

Can anyone explain what those statements actually mean?

it means exactly what it says...

the stock airbox can be used while doing other engine modifications till you reach about 170hp before it becomes a restriction and you need to look at a more free flowing one.
            also
The PD130/150 intake will work with engine modifications upto 200hp+ before you need to goto a plenum race intake.

I feel that you are doing modification to your car for performance the wrong way.
Basic Power upgrades 1st then look at free flowing to get the extra benefit.

You are going to get the most power from Injectors and Chip, then benefit from doing muffler and intake.
then you start to chase power with $$ with Turbo and new chip programs etc.

it means exactly what it says...
I guess my point is that it doesn't actually mean anything.

The stock intake poses a measurable intake restriction with no modifications made to the engine at all. Therefore, to say that it doesn't pose a restriction until 170hp (or whatever figure you want to use) is simply untrue.

To quote a "hp flow" of the standard manifold (or any other) again doesn't make much sense until you are also talking about the boost pressure and intake air temp after the intercooler.

I feel that you are doing modification to your car for performance the wrong way.
Basic Power upgrades 1st then look at free flowing to get the extra benefit.
I would have thought that 'basic power upgrades' pretty much describes intake and exhaust mods that have so far cost less than $100 total. I don't know what would be more basic...

Back to the intake manifold. I was hoping to see some before/after power curves: i would have thought that there would be some potential low-down torque benefit with the longer runners.
