Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Thanks for the clarification. If the kit doesn't include management, then at the prices quoted not including shipping it'll most probably put it outside my budget

Good like with the GB though, hope you get the numbers.

Are lines, tanks, compressors etc an extra cost on the bags, struts and management system? If so what are we looking at for these for a half decent set up

I've been looking around vortex for some information; a few guys are talking about maintenance etc
Is there ongoing maintenance to setups? and if so what sort of things and how often?
If on the off chance something goes wrong, (compressor dies?? I dunno) can the bags be filled and ‘locked’ at one height to make the car drivable, or would it be out of action until a replacement comes along?
What sort of life span is on the bags? And the rest of the set up?
I guess im a bit negative in thinking of all he ‘what ifs’ if i got them...

i keep saying prices on "management" this consists of tank, lines, compressors, valves/manifold, watertrap and switchbox, this is an extra cost ontop of the prices you see in the group buy

as for maintenance, all i do each month or 2 is empty the water trap and tank of any water that has been generated from the compressor
its obvious to do a once over every 6 months just to see if anything underneath is wearing, but as for bag life, guys over in the states have been running the same setup's for over 8 years without any issues! myself being a bagyard salesman, you wont have any issues with faulty parts and warranties because i will take care of them all rather than waiting for someone overseas for a part or seal.

look, the general way to use air bags is like this:

you have enough air in the tank to go up and down twice, with ride heights, their generally lower than standard so you only need a small amount of PSI to drive, if installed right (which is fairly easy to do) the car will stay up for weeks! compressors dont tend to **** themselves as often as you think and they are obviously covered under warranty

as for bags being filled and locked, air pumps from the tank through to a locking valve which holds the air from the bag-valve's anyways, so if the compressor ****s itself, you still have air in the bags

please dont think this will be a lonely operation, its fairly easy to manitain and you wont be forever stuck with an issue. everything is easily fixable

They use a check valve, ball on a seat + a spring, lets air flow in one direction only. Good work on getting this to happen. Not the right time for me but I'll probably invest in a set later on for the VR6.

Any luck on the managements systems prices? I'd be keen to see the price of a digital control with the front two bags independent of the two rears.
digitals mean you can have pre-set heights yes? (one aired out for parking, one for normal driving) which can be set to change when the car is on/off?
Also do you have (or can you get) any dimensions/specs on the bags and struts? going by what iv seen on vortex the bottom of the bag sits above normal size tyre (as the stock spring cup would be up front on a mk4 for example), but iv also seen a few people complaining about there wheel/tyre rubbing on the bag itself, is this just the ecs kits this is happening to?
Do things like tanks come in one standard size? are there great benifits to bigger/smaller tanks, lines, valves etc?
Sorry for the over kill of questions...
