    Hey everyone,
I want to try and wrap this up soon.

Can you please confirm intentions, so I can see if we need to pay import tax?
If this is the case, we will try and get it sent to 2 locations to keep costs down.

    Thanks,

    Justin

hi justin, suggestion for you to consider.

for those who have expressed serious interest, get cash up front. you dont want to be stuck with half a dozen short shifters if people change their minds, or financial ciircumstances after you've paid for them.

        Hey mate,

        Yes, thanks for that.

I have to be cautious with this, and ensure that it is all safe for everyone.
Any other tips? I need them, I haven't conducted a group buy before...

            Cool.

But we will wait for final numbers so we know a more accurate price.

            Thanks

            Justin

Ask the place you're buying them from if they'll undervalue the contents of the package on the shipping slip - if they send it as a "Non-Commercial Product Sample" with a value of USD$500, that should suffice.
              Nothing to see here...

Yeah, I will, but AFAIK, there was one place that explicitly states that they won't do that.

We will get a final count anyway, and maybe we may not even need to resort to that.

                Cheers,

                Justin

                  Hey,

Sorry, I thought I replied to you already.

But Jim said that they no longer make the SS for the MK3.

At the moment there are 7 people, including me!

I sent an email to Jim(dieselgeek) and see what he says about the import duty (what a ripoff).

                      Thanks,

                      Justin

                        LOL Wrong end Justin.

Import duty and GST are Australian taxes and Jim won't be able to advise you on those.

You will need to contact a local shipping/customs agent

So we have got a final confirmed number of 7 people including me. Unfortunately that will throw us into the rip off zone, thanks to the import customs duty tax.

I am doing what I can to avoid it. But the owner is being a bit of a cat about it.

                            - I suggested marking it down slightly (1-2 units worth).

                            - Or sending it into two packages to 2 different addressees. Then he said he would 'prefer to send it as one, so as to minimise risk!' (Silly if you ask me).

I am very anxiious as well. My R32 has a long arsed throw.

                            Thanks,

                            Justin

can someone tell me how much we would pay in import tax and GST?

the webpage seems a little vague.

if the value of the order exceeds A$1,000 then you will be up for 10% import duty, then compund with a further 10% GST, plus the local customs agent will hit you for a $50 - $100 fee for clearing the goods.

So allow 21% plus $100 on top of your delivered cost to Oz.

For example, assume the goods are US$900 plus US$100 for delivery.

                                landed cost is US$1,000 @ exch rate of (currently) 0.84 = AU$1,190

                                then add 10% import duty = AU$1,309
                                then add 10% GST = AU$1,440

then add another $100 for clearance = AU$1450.

Alternatively, if you get say 2 parcels (to 2 different addresses!):

                                US$450, plus say US$80 delivery = US$530 @ 0.84 = A$631

                                x two parcels = $1,262 or a savings of $188.

As Jim for a quote for 1 parcel, and for 2 parcels delivered to 2 different locations and do the comparison
