  • SA For sale: 2008 R36 wagon

    Summary: Blue 2008 R36 wagon, 56783 kilometres, $25000.

    The good stuff:
    - 2008 Volkswagen Passat R36 wagon.
    - 3.6 litre V6 engine with 6 speed DSG gearbox.
    - 56783km as of February 6, 2016.
    - Biscay Blue.
    - RNS510 satellite navigation with version 6 maps.
    - Auto tailgate.
    - Upgraded flappy paddles.
    - Good condition Bridgestone RE002 tyres and a Dunlop spare that's never been used (and probably should be replaced).
    - The steering column immobiliser issue has been fixed.
    - It's unmodified apart from the paddles. I thought about having the exhaust tweaked a while back but that never happened.
    - Plenty of posts from me about the car on VW Watercooled

The car was delivered in June 2008 and has a full service history from the wizards at Auto Studio on Unley Road here in Adelaide. I've owned it since new, and it has never been subject to any finance.

    The bad stuff:
    - VW Australia forgot to tell the factory to attach a reverse camera to this first batch of cars, so it doesn't have one (it does have front and rear parking sensors, but without any visual feedback).
    - Someone hit the front right of the parked car while they were parking (low speed) and did a runner. The bumper can come loose but the current fix seems to have stopped that happening. A full fix is an insurance job, as replacing the front bumper is quite expensive.
    - Both front doors have minor cosmetic damage: a scratch on the passenger side and a dog pee etch on the driver side door. I don't own a dog so I reckon someone let their dog do it.
    - The bolstering on the driver's seat is collapsing. This is a known problem and VW won't fix it out of warranty, but an automotive upholsterer should be able to. I haven't bothered to have this done.
    - No Bluetooth. This is a fairly simple fix.
    - The wheels have copped a few dings, but a wheel repairer can fix the damage.
    - The major DSG service has not been performed. I haven't done this as I was planning on trading it to a dealer who can do it (they have a good relationship with a VW dealer).
    - The drivers mirror has some "stuffing" hanging out and I don't know why. The mirror functions as normal.
    - Auto Studio noted some time ago that there's an oil weep from the vacuum pump. This has been monitored and has not developed further.

Driven enthusiastically but treated sympathetically, and very much loved. Registered until mid June 2016. A mechanical inspection is welcome - if there's something I don't know about, I want to know about it!

Only the first photo is recent - the rest span a few years. High quality recent photos of the issues mentioned above are coming once I have the time and the light is right!

There's no known mechanical or electrical problems.

This has been a fantastic car, but I'm selling - or trading - because my C63s wagon has just arrived in Australia and delivery is imminent.

Please get in touch via private message if you're interested.

      Thanks

I've ordered Iridium Silver with the Edition 1 package, which I only really want for the interior but I haven't made up my mind about the decals or wheels. I'll probably have Xpel Stealth applied everywhere for a matte look - I'm hoping to achieve something a bit like this, which I think looks great in the matte Iridium Silver Magno paint:

      I'm a little excited

Ha, the logical upgrade would be an RS6 but there's no way I could afford one! I wish I could - they're bucket list material for me. I was looking at Golf R wagons, really, and placed a deposit on an RS3 but backed out when pricing was released. I thought the R wagon was a downgrade from the R36 in a few ways and wasn't prepared to commit to buying one when I knew I probably wouldn't love it. Fortunately, in the space of a few days everything came together to look at spending RS4 money - but the C63s represented much greater value with only a few options to tick and had a much nicer interior and so much more torque. Sold!

To be honest, I'm still kind of pinching myself. How the hell do I go from looking at Golf wagons to buying a C63?!

Thanks! I doubt I'll sell privately before I trade it, but I figure I want an enthusiast to buy it before a dealer buys it. I wish I could keep it - it's such a great car. It still makes me smile and I'm going to miss it a lot.

The C63 is pricey. $171,000-ish on road. Too much for me, but... Dad has been a car nerd all of his life and can't buy a car like the C63 without a lot of grief from Mum, but he can buy part of it to secure driving rights. He will own a small part of that car and he's more excited than I am!

Would honestly consider this if all our money wasnt tied into a house we are building atm, we wanted one but opted to buy a bargain of a mk5 jetta tdi.

When is the car due to get traded?

Although I'm not in the market for an R36 right now it may help motivate some potential buyers....

GLWS - looks to be a relatively low km example

                    2017 Tiguan Sportline - Tigger73's 162TSI Sportline

                    2016 Scirocco R, stage 1, 205kwaw (sold) - Tigger73's Scirocco R Build
                    2013 Tiguan 155TSI, stage 1, 144kwaw (sold) - Tigger73's 155TSI Build

Good luck with the house build - I hope it's not too stressful

I'm picking the C63 up on the 23rd. It could be next week but I'm buying from the dealer down in Mount Gambier (who are excellent and well worth the 400km drive if you're buying a Mercedes) but I have too much on next week to get down there before the 21st. Realistically, the R36 will leave Adelaide on Sunday the 21st unless it's sold prior - assuming my best man duties on the 20th don't get out of hand

The C63 has been delayed for a while- something about a critical service campaign and not being allowed to release the car until it's taken care of. The R36 is still for sale
