Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • NSW EOI - 2002 Bora 4Motion Sport - Needs work

    Hi All,

    The unthinkable has happened. My Bora is unwell.

    2 days ago it drained all oil into the coolant. I stopped pretty quickly when I saw the steam and I think I avoided internal damage.

    The bad;

    Mechanic said the entire cooling system is likely stuffed and that the minimum work required is for a new cooler (apparently there is a oil cooler that uses the cooling system to keep it cool - this is what failed.) He can't confirm what is irreparable and what is ok unless we pull it all apart. So, safe bet is to assume cooling system, oil cooler and engine are dead.

    The car also needs ABS sensor (G251) as well as O2 sensors and the A/C doesn't work.

    The Good;
    • Its a proper Sport model.
    • I searched for years to get good replacement donut head rests, so all 5 are there.
    • Leather interior is in pretty good condition.
    • Just fitted brand new Continental ContiMax tyres to the 4 Bora Sport 17's. (1000k's ago roughly)
    • It has Eibach springs on 10,000 k old Bilstein B8's. (Needs new strut mounts - supplied)
    • Most front suspension bushes have been replaced since I bought it.
    • Slotted RDA disks and Remsa pads on the front (rear needs replacing)
    • Just replaced master window switch so auto up/down works
    • Passat W8 interior light
    • Replaced almost all plastics in the car with new genuine black ones (I hate wood grain) - Gearstick remains original. Vertical trim beside radio supplied but not black
    • Black front and back badges
    • 10k oil changes, 20k oil filter changes.
    • Its a really great car and I'm already devastated.

    It has 238k's on it also but still feels really tight.

    Currently open to offers. May be willing to part it out depending on demand.

    I'm really sure I'm missing things here, I'll update if I think of any.
