Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

As I'm sure you know, but there's probably less than 15 in Australia. Those in good condition worth quite a bit more than $12K, those in iffy condition probably a bit less.

I currently have a 1988 MK1 Caddy undergoing a full restoration in South Africa prior to shipping it over as a personal import. Given its expected as new condition when it arrives, I wouldn't dream of parting from it for less than $25K ...... not that it is for sale, just saying, that the market for Mk1 Caddy's really is a sellers market ......

MK1 Caddys were built in South Africa from about 1984 to 2007 I think. Anything pre 1989 can be brought in as a personal import and my local compliance company said not really anything needed to get a compliance plate other than general road worthiness ......

A 1984-88 Caddy that spent its life in-country in South Africa can be mostly rust free and if reasonably cared for previously could be in reasonably condition. Shipping and compliance is about $3K, Caddy itself in stock condition about $5K, so if you really wanted 1, you could bring your own in for under $10K .......

        Some examples:

        Vw caddy 2.0l 8v Old school , coilovers | Mosselbaai | Gumtree South Africa | 112359360

        1988 Volkswagen Caddy 1.8 | Goodwood | Gumtree South Africa | 112421550
