Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

      Added pictures for you.

The hole in the gbox looks just like my old MK1 when I tried to jump start in reverse down a steep hill. The force of turning over the motor pushed the reverse shaft out of the way and the only place it could go was down. Would you believe my mechanic mate suggested glueing the casing back together with 24 hour Araldite because the break was so clean and the broken off casing was only 1 piece. He then made a 30cm bracket to hold it from underneath and the car drive fine for the next 2 years that I had it.

      How did you break yours?

      Cheers

      Paul

No idea how I managed to break mine. In fact I didn't even know it was broken for a couple of days! Noticed some oil on the driveway so checked the oil levels in the engine and they were fine but I booked it in to my mechanic and he got his hands on it two days later and picked up on it. The hole isn't at the bottom of the housing so there was enough oil left for the gearbox to stay lubricated enough in the short time that I drove it with the hole.

Nice car but you would be better off getting a gearbox from Matt (loon) and having your mechanic fit it to get best $$$. GLWS

Cheers Evorobin. You're likely correct but I don't really have the time or disposable cash to do that at the moment, hence the lowish price and consideration of offers.

Bump. Did I mention that the price is negotiable? Make an offer. I won't be offended.
