If it's ok, is anyone in newcastle or sydney willing to take an initial peek on my behalf?

I note the car has over 200k on the clock.

Is that something to be avoided, or ok, subject to service history?

          Hi mate

i've been keeping an eye out for something similar for myself. Like your son I'm not really that keen on silver either but it seems to be the most popular colour!? That example looks pretty good. It has all the options and price isn't too bad and it's manual! km's are a bit high though. Not sure if this is such an issue if log book have all the stamps. I'd also be interested to hear others opinion on this.

There are other GTI's with similar pricing that have up to half the kms, but don't have the options/mods. Problem is they are, for the most part, freakin' silver!

Have you looked at the Skoda RS? Same engine as the GTI. Better appointed IMO. More room if that's helpful. Generally less km & less $$. There's even a 2010 facelift there (should be the MK6 running gear & chain driven EA888 TSI engine) for $15600. Most of the go-fast bits that fit a GTI fit the Octavia.

            Here's a list I included the diesels

Just a thought unless he's totally bent on the GTI badge/body

Thanks Brad, I'll pass that on, but he's more into the looks of a car, and I'm thinking he won't fin the Octavia appealing

I can understand that. I remember when i bought mine a mate described it as looking like it was designed in the mid-90s. I couldn't argue against the claim.

Don't forget the Jetta with the 147kw engine & all the GTI bits underneath. Slightly more stylish than the Octavia as well but slightly less versatile as it's a normal boot rather than a hatch.

Both less likely to attract unwanted attention from Plod.

Octavia doesn't stand a chance then.

I had some ostentatious but slow cars (bright yellow Mk2 Capri with fats & lowered was one) & some really quick but boring looking cars (XT Falcon base model with razor blade tyres but a worked 6 cylinder). I could get away with murder in the Falcon; the Capri was constant cop bait.

fully optioned, had a great inspection report, a credit to the owner, who was a gentleman to deal with.

Its on a truck from sydney and we should see it in about 2 weeks.

New wheels and tyres also ordered ex UK and USA

Well, I was going to offer and go and check it out for you, but all done and dusted!

Knowing the trip it has done I am pretty confident it will be in better mechanical condition than one that has done 70,000kms but never left the Sydney metro and only done shorty trips.
