Hi,
Wanted to get an idea of value for the Mk1 I'm selling. A friend has already expressed his interest in buying it, but I really don't know what it's worth.
The shell is a 1978 but not in the best shape. Minimal rust (just one little patch behind the rear left wheel arch) but there are some dents in the front quarter panels and bonnet (have a spare bonnet, though). The rest of it is a bit mismatched.
I'm not sure who built the motor since I pulled it out of the other shell I'm building up, but it's a 1.9L block, 8V head and runs well. Plenty of torque and response. The gearbox is an ACD close ratio five-speed from a Mk2 GTI, but it needs to have an issue with the diff pre-load sorted as it hasn't been assembled correctly after having new carrier bearings put in.
Inside it's in fairly good nick apart from the dash which is badly cracked. Seats are all good. It needs attention to get the brake lights and reverse lights working. Currently the heater box is in the boot with the necessary attachments to hook it up, but you'll need to get a couple of hoses to plumb it into the engine bay. Also needs a wheel alignment and brake bleed. I simply don't have the time or motivation as my other Mk1 project is dragging out.
The car is registered until October. Has basically brand new tyres.
Overall it is not the neatest Mk1, quite rough around the edges, but the motor is strong and with the gearbox problem sorted it would make a good runabout. Definitely plenty of fun there to be had.
Please let me know your thoughts. I'm not expecting much money I just don't want to sell it for next to nothing if I can get a few bucks more for it. The cash goes to my other Mk1 which could use all the help it can get!
