Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

SO what if I do hehehe!
Going to take the GL for a run this afternoon, can't wait.
I have photos of the GLD and the interior is in pretty damn good nick!
The dash seems to have allways had a matt on it, preventing cracks...

                Haha so, I bought one!

                The GL, it's a 77' in Silver...
Goes alright, just has a bit of an idling issue, just think it needs the jets cleaned and idle upped a tad'.
So, I guess this is where it all begins... need to get the cash together ($1200) and fix him up and take the car tomorrow

                Cheers,

Standard MK1's are very easy to get going quicker. Double barrel progressive webber and extractors get it moving like a modern car, GTI ventalated brakes get it stooping much better and a lower strut brace (home made for $10) plus rear sway bar (off the front of a Mazda Capella or Sigma) plus 14 inch wheels and good tyres get it handling really well.

That's the cheapest option. If you've got the money the sky's the limit. Go see Peter and check out his Caddy (6 speed, 1.8, KO4).

Have fun Aaron and glad to see you've come over to the dark side!

Yeah I cannot believe it Paul, finally got a classic golf!
I have big plans, make that huge plans... make that HOOOGGGEEE!!!! plans! lol

I am planning to strip the car right back first, not motor, but interior and exterior fix the 3 dents it has near passenger headlight, and both sides of back tail lights.
Then sand back the drip rails and check that what appears to be very light surface rust is just that. Check over the entire inside of the car too for rust once all the interior is removed.
Then, if I have located them by then, which I am trying even as of now to locate a nice quad light grille (black badge), black (bigger mkI) bumpers, smoked tails and GTI flares... get them mocked and fitting well, then pull the motor and start rebuilding the steering rack, new shocks, brakes, everything that moves...
As for a new motor, I am still deciding, would love to try and pull off 4motion would just be amazing, understand it would be very very hard but I am willing.
Does anyone know if you can connect an R32 manual box to a MkV GTI 2.0L motor?

Anyway, I am rambling but just soo chuffed!
