outer cv boot replacement- quick boot?

Has anyone had any success with replacing the outer CV boot with a universal quick boot like this one:

'oops, wrong link, see post below'

A mate has given me one (since he sold his Passat) and I was going to give it a try before a long 4hr trip (to Bright)....
