Has anyone fitted later 81tsi into earlier 77tsi? I'm guessing its far from direct bolt in?

I ask because my second timing chain tensioner is now stuffed and a complete used engine can be cheaper than the tensioner... but I'm assuming there would be all sorts of ECU issues probably even...

just thought I'd join up as i've owned and currently do own air cooled Volkswagens but am also looking for a t5 van at the moment which I'd like to modify as my daily ride.
