Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • 2010 Volkswagen Robust (VW Ute) caught in the open !!!!!

I think the cabin design is production ready (or close to it) but the tray and the front area from the windscreen could easily be mule design.

You can see VW have borrowed the Triton design of hiding the tray within the cabin.

The cabin has a Mazda BT50/Ford Ranger shape to it, the B pillar is blackened to give the sense of space

Front side has a bit of Touareg in it IMO.

The Robust Concept will debut this September in Hanover with prodcution to follow a year later.

Robust will be in Australia late 2010 or early 2011. (predicted)

      Like a triton, but better

I like it. I'd think about buying one.

Why copy someone else's design? I think VW is more than capable of designing a ute. It will be interesting to see what they come up with

IMO car makers these days have a lot in common and if you don't see it your blind (last comment not pin pointed at any particular member ).

You see the automotive industry goes in design phases if some particular shape/design sells well all the companies use it in new or updated models etc etc.

Also alot of the head designers swap from one marque to the next taking his/her style along with them.

So yes it is a copy in one way but with the rest of the vehicle it may create a new look (although you can't do too much with pickups )

You know the mk5 golf looks a bit like a pulsar, don't want to buy a mk5 golf? The new scirocco concept looks a bit like an imprezza. Don't like the new scirocco? The caddy looks a bit like a holden combo, but that didn't stop me buying a caddy.

At the end of the day car companies have to design a car that will appeal to the majority of the market they are aiming for. And that usually means that they're going to end up with a vehicle that looks similar to most of the other vehicles in the same category.

Only a bit. Just the basic shape and the headlights a little. You don't see one coming down the road and go oh hey here comes a gol... Oh wait its a crappy pulsar... But there are similarities.

BOT: I like the interior. Looks very 'Robust'.
