    2. Weighted balls on strings for the parcel shelves as opposed to self recoiling housings.
    3. Really nasty engine covers (I mean the MkV GTI was cheap and nasty and now the MkVI GTI is even worse).

Then there's the fact that the GTI doesn't even come standard with nice GTI scuff plates anymore.

I mean seriously, come on VW you can do better than that.

    Cheers,
    Trent
    You also forgot...
    4) The fact the price is several thousand cheaper now than with the MKIV

I had a 306XSI and then a 306 GTi-6. The GTI-6 still ranks with me as one of the best hot hatches of all time. Think of it as a late 90s perfect merging of a RS250 and Golf GTI

Oh, i think the MKVI is much classier than the MKV GTI. Just the change to a darker cloth on the seats and dash have made a huge improvement.

I've read the GTI-6 was pretty awesome. I had a 205, and my god it handled well. It was so immediate. There was zero slack in any of it's responses. The way you could tip it into a corner and then balance the whole car on the outside rear tyre was SOOO much fun. Caught me out once or twice though. I thought a 182 would be similar, but it feels so much more vague. Still a good car

No plastic there, all alloy baby! My bonnet is not transparent anyway, so what's exactly th problem?

Sorry, but since you brought it up, I have to say GTI's engine bay really sucks... Looks like a cacophony of ugly black plastic to me.

          Megane's just as ugly!

BAHAHA nice! I never managed a spin, but I had a nice brow-pants moment not 5 feet from the guard rail in the wet. Gathered it up nicely and looked around to see if anyone had noticed

Was comparing MkIV to MkV and MkVI Golfs not Renaults for that one. I don't actually have a problem with the weighted balls but my point is that VW have gone backwards in regards to that.
Also as pointed out that's not actually an engine cover on the Clio.

                    Love the alloy look

BTW is that a red durometer polyurethane engine mount on the left?

lol if it's for induction noise, i never hear it. the rest of the time the exhaust pops and exhaust burble drown out anything happening up front.

i've driven a few quick clios but at 6 foot 4 and 110kg, it was fun till it started to hurt (that's what she said). still good fun though. have you tracked yours yet?

The XSI was a bit of fun for that - I can only imagine that the GTi-6 would be even better.

I've been looking into a Xsara VTS as well - they seem to be nicely rear driven for a fwd.

They are not as intuitive as in the MkV being clustered together and not separated.

                                Still a cost cutting measure.

Try fitting a large street directory in there.

Again - another cost cutting measure instead of the dedicated illuminated LCD screens for each side.

I don't know why you are talking about head units when I was talking about chrome accents on vents and the steering wheel. Just for your information, late model MkV GTIs came standard with RCD510s and could be optioned with RNS510s.

Only In your dreams. The quality is so much better than the mkV that they included the rattles as a bonus.

well, that was easy too. I don't understand why MkVI GTI owners always get so defensive over their choice. Facts are facts - embrace them
