  • shell fuel - no more 95RON

    i went to shell last night to fill up the Polo and when i went to pickup the 95 RON pump i couldn't find it

    they used to have 98, 95 and 91

    now they have v-power, unleaded and 10% ethanol unleaded - with no RONs displayed on any of them....

    so does anyone know which one is 95RON? the guy at the station says they don't sell it anymore......

    guess i'll have to find somewhere else

    unleaded = 91
    10% = 93-5
    v-power = 98

    afaik

      Yellow = 91RON
      Green = 95RON (10% Ethanol)
      Red V-Power = 98 RON
      Red V-Power Racing = 100RON (5% Ethanol)

              Quite possible, while having a nice high octane rating, ethanol has a lower calorific value - less energy per ml.

                In my local shell, they haven't had v power racing for months.
                just want to confirm this, I loved that fuel, Seriously makes a difference in high revs.

                anyways, just to high jack this thread a bit.
                For VR drivers whats that average kms you do before filling up.
                Coz mine is quite low, 380 km thats is just about to touch the red line. I hear one guy say averge he gets is 450 km/ tank. City and highway. I am worried I have soemthing major. Or that guy is just pulling my leg ???? HELP

                    450 per tank all the time.

                    I dont really smash the pedal tho.

                    Thats with Ultimate 98 too. We WA yokels dont get V-power. Not that I've checked in ages though.

                      Actually I hear ppl say BP Ultimate are ppls preference. I use shell coz of convinence, shopper dockets and on way to uni.

                      Guys.... 450km is that right ON the red line? Coz I never dare to go over, the fear of not having a drop in the tank.

                      BTW.... for the petrol meter do we MK3 have a red light as a warning ? coz I looked the other day didn't see a light bulb.

                          Even with a knock sensor the mk2 was a bitch cold on 91.

                            I usually dont wait till red empty to fill. I get about 430 with a bit still left in so I'm guessin 450.

                              Have never used V-Power Racing. I nearly had a heart attack when i saw the price difference and the price for just V-Power is expensive enough and i am still a little chicken about running my fairly new baby on anything with ethanol in it.
