This is breaking news. The Straits Times Singapore has reported Volkswagen has scrapped it’s plans for a tie-up with Proton. According to Reuters, Volkswagen told Khazanah Nasional that it’s strategies have changed, and a production …
Its off but VW will still most likely build a plant or partner up with a Malaysian Industrial company to build there
there is a god!!!
read this from a post on that page...

Proton choose not to be with VW because they do not want to give us a share of their South African market which is where we can also market our fantastic cars”
Proton continues “Why Africa and China? Because quality level are reasonable over there for our cars”
And if people question how come Proton Gen 2 become Aust official safety driving lesson car? Go figure, you have to be extra careful with a piece of paper. No?
Proton might even come up with this “We are looking to take over Lada, as we would like to have their technological advancements in producing cars that can withstand the harshest tempreture of Russian Winter, with this technology, we might be able to enter various market from the northern and southern hemisphere, we can be like Starbucks soon! we are everywhere!”
tosers!!!!!!!
Wow, and doesn't Proton have Lotus? Will we see little Lotuswagens popping around some time in the future?
In my eyes it's a good thing - I'm Malaysian and they are pretty much the only vehicles they drive in Malaysia. Quality of Proton vehicles are awful. I hope in buying Proton, they start using VW parts and styling cues rather than Mitsubishi.
This is true, but it seems pretty clear that Volkswagen has already remembered how to make a hot hatch, and one considerably better than the Satria too I might guess!
That said, a stripped out GTI inspired by Lotus would be nice.
Its finally happened, VW have agreed to buy Proton
