There are photos appearing of prototypes of the Golf 7. It has also been rumoured that the Golf 6 will be killed off by the end of 2011.
What happened to VW running their models for a decent time to retain some value. I'm a car-head and like to keep up with new technology, but phew I wish they'd slow down a bit! I still have the brilliant 2.0 TDI Golf 5, would really like a 6, but now am aiming to hold off till the 7 is here.
Because VW is a clear leader, I think they should let the others at least come close to matching them before they rush to develop a new model.

The "prototype" models are more likely to be the "cross" variants of the Mk 6 for the European and African markets.
They lift them up and allow more of an off-road capability with bigger wheel arches.

Alternatively, if they are prototype models for the Mk 7, that is the first stage of production and final build will still be a fair way off.
Clay modeling is the first step in prototype production

I would say the Golf VI will be around for at least 3-4 years.
The new golf will be a completely new design as the golf 1-2, 3-4 and 5-6 have been.

Don't believe rumours like that. VW aren't going to change their models completely in 18 months. Imagine the cost of tooling, spares etc if model life was that short? The VII is still in the design phase. Its going to be at least 4 years off as Team_V said.

If you want to know how many times the motoring press get it wrong, have a look at their predictions about how a new VW will look before it is released. Most times they are way off.
