German new car rebates go out of control to cheap imports
Dacia Logan was originally designed for poor people, so they can buy a new car and at the same time as a help to the environment. It is cheap but designed to last and be driven on roads in bad condition, no luxuries in it like power windows and such, but also last with minimum of maintenance.
Oh, these Europeans they don't know what they want.
This topic is hotly debated here in Germany. In my opinion it's a naive expection.
The real winners of this bonus are the foreign car companys, not BMW, Mercedes, Audi etc. I think only for the Volkwagen Group has an advantage, because they are selling a lot of cheap cars more.
The money what they give the citizens now, all taxpayers have to pay this back in the future, not the same due the GST, but enough!
The bonus is limtited to 2009, what will happen in 2010, how many cheap cars will sell then??? The bonus is enough for 2 Million new cars in 2009. I think the requirements are only shifted and not grown and the car sellers of cheap cars will have a strong sales slowdown in 2010.
Ecologicts says that the production off all this new cars make more CO² polution than driving an old car furthermore. So even this isssue is no advantage.
But it's very good for the governing labor, because in a couple of month are new elections
I could see it also like that.
The car is made outside of Germany (somewhere else pollution is made).
Than a new car is sold in German city and one old car is scrapped (old car which was polluting air in that city more than a new one will), that will improve the quality of the air in that city or won't it? (less pollution from the exhaust)
It is probably not good globally.
But that was the original intention, wasn’t it?
We will move the factories far a way where labour is much cheaper (not just a case of German manufacturers), make mess somewhere else and bring the clean product home, sell it and make more profit. (I'm not talking just about cars)
I call it exploitation.
First they exploit countries where labour is cheaper by paying less or no tax for 5 or who know how many years and than move further, if it gets more expensive.
Ah well, we can all learnt from this pioneer scheme. I thought the original intention was to rejuvenate the "domestic" car-makers but obviously you can not be too discriminatory hence the exploitations by cheaper imports.
