Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • JD Power US survey - VW last place??

The latest JD Power survey in the US has rated VW second last out of a total of 36 brands.

Any thoughts on what is going on?

All those MkV Golf interior quality issues that we keep hearing about rearing their head maybe?

One thing to remember with these surveys is that a minor interior issue is treated with the same severity as serious mechanical failure.

Nevertheless, considering that VW have got JD power to assist them in their MK6 suggests that VW are not satisfied with their quality of products. Hopefully the new range will get rid of the niggling things that kill them in these sort of surveys.

The US one still shows a pretty sad story of the general quality of cars there, Mazda rate quite highly in Europe and Australia due to being Japanese made...over there a lot are made in Canada and people within my US based company say they have a lot of problems with them, especially the 6 which is mainly US made there. They often wish they could get our Jap made ones. I suspect the Mexican made VWs might be in that mix. Jag doesn't do so well in the UK surveys so shows that its really the best of a sad bunch....

The thing that seems to be plaguing the current crop of VW products are rattles, squeeks, tingles, and vibrations in their interiors, and as they are so annoying, they may cause lots of these affected owners to shop elsewhere next time...
Good news for Toyota and Honda.
Mazda did also not do all that wonderfully...
          What are their issues.

Jaguar first LOL. Remember this is not a reliability OR a quality survey, its an owners report survey. It means that on average Jag owners report 1.7 problems per car and on average VW owners report 2.6 problems per car. It doesn't necessarily mean that Jag has less problems, it may mean owners of some brands are more aware of little problems like squeaks etc while owners of other brands don't consider it a problem. It may mean that some cars engines are so noisy that you can't hear the squeaks! The survey can be interpreted in many ways. Actual quality is only one factor.

this is a very smart move taken by vw, not only have they accepted responcability there willing to take it head on to resolve the issue instead of sweeping it under the rug. comitment by validating jd power's survey , and comitment to using jd power as a future quality tool, is an excelent strategy to shoe horn into a potentially unfavourable market.
