Wow, a book that I would actually buy!! It looks fantastic and I love this sort of comical art work, currently in search of a copy (few on Amazon and eBay).
Thanks for posting that up

My Farther has had a copy of the VW Beetle/Bug version for years and it's been worth its weight in gold (and then some). With the help of the book I rebuilt/reassembled a 1964 bug (my first car) and kept it alive long enough to pass it on to my brother.
You didn't outbid me Peter but I was watching it and ready to bid then forgot
Now I am really hurting hahaha
Actually, Pete, does it include the aus 1.6's or is it mainly the us stuff?
I will need to find a book containing Heron motors.. UK haynes I guess?
I think that it looks a lot easier to read and interpret than the pictures in the Bentley, I have a short attention span to some things and reading tech stuff is one where as this seems fun with some humor.

You would have also found one of these useful. Glad I kept them. Part of history now.
Don't know about the Rabbit one but they still publish to original Beetle one. Of course, the Rabbit one is done by someone else and is unashamedly a rip off if the old one but it seems very good, nevertheless.
The two books are from the same Publisher - John Muir Publications.
John Muir himself authored the First Beetle Book which is still in print and up to it's 19th edition. (Amazon also lists Tosh Greg as an author, perhaps he revised the editions after 1977 when John Muir died.)
The Rabbit Book was authored by Richard Sealy and only ran one edition.
John and Richard were to have co-written the Rabbit book but John died in 1977 and the project became Richards.
Illustrations in the both books were done by Peter Aschwanden.

OK makes sense now why they are so similar.
