i lived in sapporo for three years. Teine highlands is my home mountain. I love that place.
Spending ten mins pushing through used branches to get to an open field of un touched powder.... Its heaven....
Thats what is important in life..
Gareth, get your bum over here to melb for a week- i dont have a glam apartment but i drive 30 or so day trips a year- we could go riding together and you would only have to pay for your airfares and any rental gear for you etc .
Buller is not comparable to other hills but it atleast keeps your mind fresh in terms of what actually matters.
And my offer goes out to anyone. Anyone who wants to learn how to ride (casi instructor here) who doesnt mind an air mattress on a floor in an oldish apt in melb is more than welcome to send me a pm and come riding.
Cheers.

Yeah she wasn't too impressed.....although after a few moments she did ask how much a lifty gets paid, lol. I think being unemployed is beginning to get to her.
yeah i hear you man, 2 of brothers mates have been layed off both now facing bankrupcy. tell her hang in there, things can only get better. my sister went down to the local laundry mat, and asked the owner if she could put up a sign for laundrey services. sure she doesnt earn much, but the time it takes her away from thinking about money woes is invaluble

Dang Scott, I'd be very tempted to come up with an offer like that. Living in Adelaide things get a little expensive and it's hard to do a weekend or a 4 day trip. I dont have a lot of leave left over but desperately wanna get up there this year. Was thinking Buller cos it's closer and I havent boarded buller. I may just PM you when it really starts dumping and see if the offer is still on....tempted to hit up Bourke St this weekend considering it's open, long way to drive though for one open run (not that I mind a hike)

It sucks, she's getting more and more panicky as time goes by and she's starting to look for anything that will bring some cash in. One good thing is she has been staying at my place lately and it has never looked cleaner

gravey, i might be going away for about a month/ six weeks in august,
but the offer will always be open- buller isnt a glamorous mountain, and it might not be as big as other resorts but its my home hill (now) and there are plenty of good lines to be had out the back, and they DO make a good effort with their terrain park.
yeah- accommodation will be free and its close enough for day trips. i work nights, and i finish work at 06:30am. i take my gear with me to work, and as soon as work is over i get in the car and haul ass up to buller- usually in the parking lot by around 09:30am, so say 10am-5pm boarding, its a good day.
if you wanna come over for a weekend, thats not a problem- i dont stay up the hill so it would be a case of leave melbourne early in the morning, and coming back to melbourne saturday night, and same thing sunday.
but if you dont mind that, then come over for a weekend! doing it the way i do does involve abit of driving but its piss all in fuel (around $30 round trip), park entry will be covered (i get a season pass) and costs for you will pretty much be: lift ticket, lunch, coffees........... and thats pretty much it!
cheers!
