Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • VW Parts - Gold Coast QLD

    Hi!

I just got totally ripped off on parts for my VW at
Volkswagen Gold Coast Southport (James Frizelles)
for example, $150 for 5L Longlife III Oil ($75 at my last dealer,or $15/L)
and $200 for the fuel filter for a T5 (!)

Where do you guys get parts from locally?
    - 2011 Multivan T5.2 - 2,0L 135kW BiTDI. Mod info here
    - 2008 Tiguan 5N 103TDI 4MOTION. Mods: RNS510 | Colour MFD | MFSW | LED tail lights | Mirror LED | Footwell LED

Doesn't help you now but if you google that number or stick it in ebay, there's tons for less than half the price you paid.

Pretty sure you can buy some compatible oil outside the dealer too.

Yes that's right, when I can be bothered I order oil from Harold at Performance Lub for less than half that price (~around $15/L) and parts from wherever, but with all the official VW parts places I've dealt with before, I've only ever paid maybe 10-20% more - sometimes with the hassle I just like to get it all at one place (and I can be sure it's not cheap chinese copies).

But yeah this place was ridiculous. I should have taken the hint when I went in there and they were selling HUYUNDAI and JEEP parts as well, from the same counter ?!!?... not sure if they are even an official VW dealer or what the go is there....

I use HSY however they only sell to trade customer unfortunately. There's always Ashdown, repco and bursons aswell mate. Never ever buy oil from a dealer, complete rip off.

$150 bought you two 5L bottles, right? If so, that's fairly cheap.

Although the fuel filter retails for about $90.

No: $150 for 1x 5L bottle! Insane. $300 for 10L. At my previous VW dealer it was $75 ex GST. I didn't realise individual VW dealer franchises set their own parts prices with such massive variation. (These quotes are both from official VW dealers on the VW Aus website) Too bad there is only 1 VW dealer group on the entire Gold Coast, I might see how some of the Sth Brisbane dealers set their prices too just for interest.

                    Yeah, that is pretty high.

Normally it's around $100 from VW.

My dealer charges $93 at the parts dept, but they wanted $118 if used in a service so I buy Penrite Enviro+ and provide it myself. with 2 cars I get 5 fills from 20 litres at $67 per 5 L when its on special.
