  • Volkswagen Mechanics in Melb

Does anyone have experience with Volkwerke in Greensborough? I need a mechanic to get my Jetta serviced at regularly and their prices seem fair. I'm also considering volkspower. Any suggestions would be good.

Try Volkshome in Thomastown, good work and reasonable prices, I am not saying that Volkwerke are not good

Thanks for that! I live in lalor so that's really convenient! I just need someone reliable who's happy to give me advice when needed.

Is it unsafe to give your car into a random mechanic? Someone who doesn't specialise in VWs? I found this place in blackburn called promax auto and their prices are half of vw specialists but Im skeptical about these places.

The short answer is NO, generally the reason there prices are cheaper is A- the oil is the correct Viscosity but everything else is wrong B- they don't know that to do it properly so takes twice as long as they thought and end up doing it wrong or butchering something. Have said that they could have someone with real talent, in my opinion not worth the risk.

Cool, I just needed someone to say that. These guys apparently work on a lot of european cars but it's not the same as having 'volks' in the name right?

I just used John at Volkshome yesterday for a 105k service and timing belt change.

Used them based on what i'd read on here, really pleased with the choice to go with them, nothing felt rushed, and were cheaper than the dealers.

Timing Belt, Water pump + Labour $895
Lube Service $295 +$95 for new wipers
LHF outer CV boot + Labour $150

I can also recommend Volkshome Automotive in Thomastown.
I have used them for around 10 years now on both older Vdubs and new cars. They will also be servicing my Audi when it comes due.

Had to go back to Volkshome today because my logbook wasn't filled out and parts that were stated to be replaced on the report were not in fact replaced when I checked them later that week. Not to mention the report wasn't as detailed as other mechanics the previous owner went to.

Guy gave me the part and apologised but I had a bad taste left in my mouth and I also had to waste time today going back.

They told me I have to tell them what I want looked at specifically or they won't check, how am I supposed to know if I'm not a mechanic? seemed a bit odd. I asked for major service, felt expensive but I wanted to get someone with experience to do it, have a good look over.
I went there because of recommendations from this forum, maybe I just had bad luck?
For a first experience getting my car serviced it has completely made me lose trust in any mechanics.

I have heard good things about volkwerke and a close friend of mine knows a guy who works there, maybe I'll give them a shot next time.

That's a shame, especially after my good experience there. Thanks for sharing. I will certainly keen an eye on the forum over the next 12 months before my next service.

Had some work done at Volkwerke in Greensborough today, they did a great job and price was very fair.

My wife's MK5 GTI has been serviced by Volkwerke since it was out of warranty. I've just bought a preloved MK6 118TSI for my daughter and it will be serviced by them in due course.
