Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Mechanic recommendation - Adelaide

    Hi All,

I'm new to this forum so please correct me if I've done anything wrong.

I have a '76 MK1 Golf and looking for recommendations for a reputable mechanic with experience with this mode. I have previously done business with Volks Auto (now German Auto) in Melrose Park who are excellent but they are now exclusively late model specialists.

Andrew there recommended GHR motors in Daws Rd. Does anyone have any experience with them? I know they mostly do air-cooled VWs but what about Golfs?

Does any one have any other suggestions (preferably in the inner south of the city, bit other areas too)?

    Thanks in advance.

    Cheers
    Stephen

Cartek - formerlly Vee Dub Centre our Karmann Ghia gets serviced there not sure if they do late model VWs but very good service and same side of town as German Auto.

Volksfactory - may do late models like Andrew too, not sure.

Thanks guys. I'll check out AVW when I have some spare time.

Anyone else have experience with GHR?

I have the feeling that Cartek are less interested than they used to be since they moved to include non-VWs. I did take my old beetle there a few times but not in a while.

Sleepy, what was it about German Auto that turned you off? I've found them to be very thorough and courteous.

          Cheers.

Thanks. The Golf is usually parked outside my house in North Adelaide - I wish I could protect it from the elements and drunken passers by!

That's no good, I'm not surprised you haven't been back! It may have been one of the junior guys in charge that day, as I've found Andrew to be very attentive.
                  cheers

I Take the SEAT to Keiran at AVW, and so did the previous owner. He seems thorough and fair.
