what to do with a 'total lost' car?

Hi.
i have a query for a good friend of mine who drives a Mini Cooper.
She meet an accident - its considered 'total loss' AND the worst thing is, she forgotten to pay her insurance and the car was not insured!

so the damage was to the front left of the car and it will cost more than 20k to fix and definitely not worth the trouble.
So what can she do with the car now? The workshop says it will only fetch $1000 if she sent it to the wreckers...
air bag was not out and she was OK. There must be some value to the rest of the parts in the car like all interiors, rear bumper, rear lights, doors, wheels etc etc??

any advice?

Salvage isn't worth much they are correct. That's how the wreckers make a living though. If the salvage isn't cheap enough, they can't make any money out of it.

If she has room, time and inclination. She could do the wreckers job.... I did this with an A3 turbo that I wrote off and bought back off the insurance company. I got it for $1000 and got much more than that back on it.

I don't fancy her chances of getting anywhere near market value though.

she is not after market value, thats for sure..
and she wouldnt be doing all the parts selling by herself too..

so just getting advice or what other options she has...... mmmmmm

Yeah if they have the space, time, tools and knowledge to pull things apart and sell it piece by piece they'll make a lot more than they'd get from a wrecker, I did it with my old mk3 and made like 4x what I payed for the thing back from the and I kept the engine, gearbox and other assorted nice bits and pieces I wanted for my new car, all of which I probably could have sold for another 2k or so. Do have to know you're way around a car and do a lot of advertising and dealing with couriers and people who just waste time though so it takes a bit of effort.

edit: sorry didn't see this isn't an option, although I thought that may be the case. Maybe have another quote done to fix it somewhere else with second hand parts and stuff, may be a lot cheaper and worth doing. Not really sure, don't think theres many other options to be honest. Sell it in an auction and something maybe?

i guess she just have to call a few more wreckers to see who can fetch the highest price for her then....
its just bad luck....
