  • Anyone know a good, inexpensive trimmer in Sydney - north?

The old Golf needs a new/re-fitted headlining.
I've found plenty of high end trimmers who want to charge ~$400.
I'd like to get it done closer to $200-250.
North Shore or Hills District preferable.

    Thanks

If you're willing to travel down to Fairfield, I can get someone to do it for you at that price easily.

I do have to go to Liverpool regularly and go through Fairfield. The problem is what to do while they have the car.
If I'm close to home or office I can leave it and get back to work.
How long does it take to do?

          Hi
          I have used A.A Motor Trimming ,26 Cowper St, Granville NSW 2142 T: 9637 4691
I had new headliner in Mk3 Golf and a Toyota Camry at approx 240 - 250 each and they only take about 3 hours to do it.
My old mk1 caddy is going there in a month time as they also do spring wire headliners also.
          cheers oldgolf

Department of the Interior at Carlton is worth a try. There are also 2 trimmers in the Carlton industrial area but DOI made a leather gearstick boot for me for $25 and the other s wanted $50 (WTF?).

They'll need the car for about a week. Cost will be $1800+ depending on what leather you choose and if you want any fancy stuff.

Ring around a few dealerships & find out who they use because if the trimmer already has patterns it's a bit cheaper.

Mate, i'm not sure on cost or time, but as for place, i'd recommend The Little Trimmer in Castle Hill. I've used him for re-bolstering and upholstery on my previous cars and he does a great job. Probably not the cheapest out there, but i thought the price was fair for the work i had done.

                  Cheers,
                  Sam

Thanks guys ... i will follow this up ...

one more question ... do the seats in the Golf mk7 contain airbags in their sides, and if so is that an issue for the upholstery guys - can or will they still do the job ... and does getting the seats redone void any warranty etc

Thanks for the help so far ...

                    cheers

There's a special stitch they do where the airbags are. Some trimmers have an airbag stitch certification. All you can do is ask them & see if they sound knowledgeable.

This is another reason to find out where the dealerships get it done as the trimmer will have experience in the model.

                      Warranty? Who knows...

and yet another question ... is it possible to take the seats out of a Golf mk 7 - say one with either the leather seats or the nicer cloth seats (comfort line or high line models) that is being wrecked and put them in my car .. will they fit .. is it just a matter of swapping them over or are they somehow connected to all that electronics stuff in the car ..

i would presume that as long as the airbags haven't deployed it would be ok to do ... or is it a bad idea?

                          cheers

Yes, that's a great idea and has been done many times before.

There'll be an electrical connector for airbag & maybe heated seats. If it's the same model the connectors should be the same but even if they are different you can get an auto-elec to sort it out.

                              Thanks for that info ...

my car is the baseline model (2014 Golf 90TSI) ... i really like the seats that are in the next spec up... i think its called the comfortline... they are a really nice cloth style seat ... i would probably even prefer those over the leather ones in the GTI or R models

So i imagine that they should connect in OK ...

is there anything in particular that i should look out for when getting these seats from a wrecker ..

I did get quotes for getting the car re-trimmed in leather ... but the quotes varied from a minimum of $2500 for a custom built "Kit" (front and rear) from Blackmans to $4500 from my local trimmer (who doesn't have the kits and would have to do it from scratch) ... just getting the middle panels replaced in front and rear seats was $2500 from my local trimmer

my local dealer was less than helpful unfortunately

i think that i can get a full set of the cloth seats from my local wrecker for between $700 - $1,000 ... i have no idea what it would cost to get someone to take the old ones out and to install the new ones ... would i go to a panel beater to get that done?

thanks for the help and ideas

                              cheers
